The Dairy Store on UNL's East campus at 32nd Street and Holdredge (actual address is 114 E Campus Loop, Lincoln) is the perfect stop in this crazy heat. Cones, malts, shakes, sundaes, blitzs, all fun ice cream treats available at the dairy store. Both uncommon and common flavors are available. Favorites like vanilla and chocolate always do well but visitors can also find cinnamon, bavarian mint, caramel apple dapple, scarlet and cream and more. Some flavors rotate in and out so different things will be available.
If family gatherings are in the works, office ice cream socials, or you just love ice cream the store had 3 gallon options to take home. Delicious!
The Dairy Store is an educational experience for food science students who get hands on working knowledge of the design and manufacture of items for the store. It's possible to get a tour of the inner workings of the dairy store if you call or email a couple weeks ahead to make arrangements. What a great educational experience!
The Dairy Store food science students make delicious cheeses. Husker cheese developed by Dr. Downs of the University is the most popular cheese. It's a mild but delicious cheese. The smoked cheddar is a melt in your mouth fan favorite that shouldn't be missed. There are many other varieties to please many a palate from dill to artichoke inspiration.
The Dairy Store also serves coffee and lunch items with frequent specials. There's seating both inside and out (weather permitting). The Dairy Store is inside a university building so enter off the main drive doors and expect to find the store to the right. It would be a delicious stop before or after the game on Saturday.
