In the mood for oysters?

If you answered yes to the question in the headline then this is a perfect weekend to head south to the lowcountry. It’s the 29th Annual Lowcountry Oyster Festival in Charleston, SC, said to be the largest oyster festival in the world with 80,000 pounds of oysters.

The festival is this Sunday, January 29, 2012 at Boone Hall Plantation in Mount Pleasant, beginning at 10:30 am and ends at 5pm. In addition to simply enjoying great food, there is also the annual "Oyster Shucking Contest" as well as the "Oyster Eating Contest".

The weather is expected to be in the 60’s and sunny which makes for a nice 3 hour drive to enjoy some oysters, especially if you need some last minute plans. Advance tickets are available online for $12, children 10 and under are free. Tickets can also be purchased at the gate for $15.

Boone Hall Plantation is located at 1235 Long Point Road, Mount Pleasant, SC 29464. From Charlotte take I-77S to I-26 E towards Charleston. Take exit 212 to merge onto I-526 E to exit 28. Turn left onto Long Point Road and Boone Hall Plantation will be on the left.
