Psalm 139:15-17 (NLT)
You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion, as I was woven together in the dark of the womb. You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book.
Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed. How precious are your thoughts about me, O God. They cannot be numbered!
How many times have you thought that there has to more to life than this? Get up, eat breakfast, go to work, come home, make dinner, go to bed, and repeat daily. Add to the mix family, friends, drama, with a hefty dose of worry and stress instantly creating life as we know it. Surely God intended more for people created in His Image. This cannot be all that there is to life. Well I am happy to be the one to tell you that there is more to life than what we see and know to be true. There is an entire Kingdom waiting for our discovery with incredible power and glory ready to rain down in our life. The windows of heaven are bowed and bulging with promises and blessings that the Lord is trying to get to you! Everyday people and most of humanity do not live for each moment of life but group those into things called “the past” filled with guilt, shame and regret. They call them “today” which is overwrought with schedules, routines and stress. As if that is not enough, we take what’s left and call it “tomorrow” which is a fearful place filled with anxiety and worry for those without hope. In the midst of this endless cycle of abuse as the direct result of the lie of the enemy who is attempting to steal your future, kill your dreams and rob your destiny in Jesus Christ, I would like to remind you that every moment of your life was laid out by God before a single moment had passed. Every day of your life and mine recorded in His Book. Nothing about you or anything that you do “surprises” God, it is all written right there. The only thing that He chooses to forget is the sin washed away by the Blood of Jesus Christ. Even those things affected by that old man and sinful nature are turned and used to display God’s Goodness in our life. (Romans 8:28) It all begins in a moment. Life is to be lived in the moment otherwise the Lord would have recorded each hour, day, week or year. So for a moment, just a single tick of the clock, let’s look deeper into this increment of time and its wonderworking power in the Hands of Almighty God in the Name of Jesus!
Psalm 39:4-7 (NLT)
“LORD, remind me how brief my time on earth will be. Remind me that my days are numbered—how fleeting my life is. You have made my life no longer than the width of my hand. My entire lifetime is just a moment to you; at best, each of us is but a breath.” We are merely moving shadows, and all our busy rushing ends in nothing. We heap up wealth, not knowing who will spend it. And so, Lord, where do I put my hope? My only hope is in you.”
Our time on the earth is brief when measured according to the world’s timing. You are born and then it seems like most people die too soon. Our days are numbered from the time we drew our first breath and were thrust in our mother’s waiting arms. The clock began ticking until our funeral from that moment on. We cannot understand the concept of Eternity because we are born with a death sentence looming over our head. We must discover God’s Timing in the brevity of life to step into the future offered by faith and confident hope in the Lord. It is imperative that we use every moment of our life to discover the Plan of God for our life which includes a future and hope. Discovery requires looking for the Lord wholeheartedly. (Jeremiah 29:11-13) We must measure each moment of our life according to God’s Glorious Standard. Why? Quite simply because God is constantly examining us and testing every moment! (Job 7:17-18) If He loves us, why would He do such a thing knowing our faults and failures? The more questions on a test the greater the curve. Think about it. On a ten-question quiz, each question is worth ten points, but on a hundred-question test, they are only worth a single point giving the examinee a greater chance of success. God is watching and waiting for you to call His Name, seek His Face, plant your faith, and grow some confident hope to release His Blessing, Promise and Power in your life. Remember, God loves you. He is for you! The Lord wants you to be blessed in every moment of life.
Ecclesiastes 3:9-11 (NLT)
What do people really get for all their hard work? I have seen the burden God has placed on us all. Yet God has made everything beautiful for its own time. He has planted eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God’s work from beginning to end.
After his dissertation on time, Solomon makes a statement of hope for every believer. “God has made everything beautiful in its own time.” But as we look at the preceding verses not every moment may seem like a “good” time. Who wants all the counterparts such as tears and death that are worrisome and tough? It is all part of God’s Plan divinely woven together to produce God’s Goodness and allow His Grace to get to us. God’s Plan for your life is start to finish. The finish line is Eternal Life. Nothing less will do even it means discomfort in this life to get there. How we spend our moments is important? The choices that we make in the moment is pivotal. Not a single moment should be taken for granted in our life much less an hour, day or week. It all comprises God’s Plan for our life. He alone bears responsibility for the outcome. You only have to make one choice – will I choose life or death in this moment? The end result of blessing or cursing depends on this decision. Don’t believe me. “The woman was convinced. She saw that the tree was beautiful and its fruit looked delicious, and she wanted the wisdom it would give her. So she took some of the fruit and ate it. Then she gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it, too. At that moment their eyes were opened, and they suddenly felt shame at their nakedness. So they sewed fig leaves together to cover themselves.” (Genesis 3:6-7) Don’t be fooled the decisions you make every second of the day have the powerful potential to change your proximity to God. Thank you Jesus for grace that allows us to recover what is lost in misused moments of life. Or consider this: “And Abraham picked up the knife to kill his son as a sacrifice. At that moment the angel of the LORD called to him from heaven, “Abraham! Abraham!” “Yes,” Abraham replied. “Here I am!” “Don’t lay a hand on the boy!” the angel said. “Do not hurt him in any way, for now I know that you truly fear God. You have not withheld from me even your son, your only son.” (Genesis 22:10-12) What if in his moment of grief as he prepared to sacrifice his son, Abraham had stopped listening to God? He could have missed one of the Lord’s Greatest Blessings in His Life. God can end the test at any time. You cannot afford to stop listening to the Lord for a single minute or risk missing His Absolute Best!
The outcome of your life can change in a moment. You must put all of your expectation and hope for every day by faith in Jesus Christ. This means making every moment count. To align our life with the Word of God releases God’s Power in our life as things go according to His Plan. There is no room for variation and as discovered earlier – we are to live moment to moment. Things can change in a moment just ask King Jehoshaphat. “Early the next morning the army of Judah went out into the wilderness of Tekoa. On the way Jehoshaphat stopped and said, “Listen to me, all you people of Judah and Jerusalem! Believe in the LORD your God, and you will be able to stand firm. Believe in his prophets, and you will succeed.” After consulting the people, the king appointed singers to walk ahead of the army, singing to the LORD and praising him for his holy splendor. This is what they sang: “Give thanks to the LORD; his faithful love endures forever!” At the very moment they began to sing and give praise, the LORD caused the armies of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir to start fighting among themselves.” (2 Chronicles 20:20-22) These people probably thought the King and his prophets had lost their mind… that is until they began praising God and the enemy turned on themselves. God’s Way is not our way. In fact, most of the time I find that His Plan is not discovered until all human effort is exhausted so none can take His Glory. One of my favorite verses is this: “The moment you began praying, a command was given. And now I am here to tell you what it was, for you are very precious to God. Listen carefully so that you can understand the meaning of your vision.” (Daniel 9:23) The Lord is waiting for you to call on His Name and look to Him in this moment! The moment you do a command is given that will culminate in blessing in your life! It all begins in the moment!
Matthew 27:50-52 (NLT)
Then Jesus shouted out again, and he released his spirit. At that moment the curtain in the sanctuary of the Temple was torn in two, from top to bottom. The earth shook, rocks split apart, and tombs opened. The bodies of many godly men and women who had died were raised from the dead.
The most power-filled moment in time was when Jesus died on the Cross and released His Spirit to all mankind. The curtain to the sanctuary was torn from top to bottom so now mankind could access their Creator and Father once more. No longer could death hold God’s People as the Resurrection Power of Christ began to circle the earth. Do you live in that moment? Do you glory in its power? It was the moment that everything changed for you. I know it is hard to see Jesus dying a bloody, torturous death for your sin. I know that it is hard to bear the responsibility for the death of an innocent man. But consider the fact that to not allow the Grace, Mercy and Love of God to flow through your life would be a greater tragedy because His Gift goes unopened. Repentance is a painful time of brokenness and despair (Luke 20:61-62), yet it is in that exact moment that God’s Power is released in your life. The moment Peter denied Christ was not the end, it was only the beginning. God’s Grace is sufficient. No matter how you spent every other moment leading up to now, you have the Spirit of God living in you renewing you day by day if you will give Him the chance to do so moment by precious moment. This is not just any power, but the Resurrection Power that changes death to life. It is what raised Jesus from the dead. This is the Power that gives you a brand new life where sin tried to overtake you and throw you in the grave. But Jesus said, “No!” It was in that moment, you could run back to the Father and claim salvation living in the Presence of God once more. Nothing and no one can stand in your way any longer if you will choose to live life in the moment!
Luke 12:35-37 (NLT)
“Be dressed for service and keep your lamps burning, as though you were waiting for your master to return from the wedding feast. Then you will be ready to open the door and let him in the moment he arrives and knocks. The servants who are ready and waiting for his return will be rewarded. I tell you the truth, he himself will seat them, put on an apron, and serve them as they sit and eat!”
How do we live life in the moment? Make every moment count for Jesus Christ. Give every thought, choice and action to fulfilling His Commandments and walking in His Way. This will require a new discipline because before we were just trying to get the most out of this life. It will be a process day by day. We are to be ready when He comes. Those who are will be richly rewarded, but the Lord does not wait for the finish line but blesses and prospers us in even the smallest victory. We walk by faith and not by sight. We do so footstep by footstep not leaps and bounds. Are you ready for the Master’s Arrival? Don’t worry if there is breath in your body and your heart is still beating than there is still time! Do not hesitate to step out of the rat race chasing the American Dream for it is going nowhere quickly and a complete waste of time. Surrender each second of your life to the Lord and you will find life in each moment!
I Corinthians 15:51-53 (NLT)
But let me reveal to you a wonderful secret. We will not all die, but we will all be transformed! It will happen in a moment, in the blink of an eye, when the last trumpet is blown. For when the trumpet sounds, those who have died will be raised to live forever. And we who are living will also be transformed. For our dying bodies must be transformed into bodies that will never die; our mortal bodies must be transformed into immortal bodies.
