Long before President Obama paraded other people’s children around a stage as he signed 23 completely worthless executive orders, Texas Legislators were busy filing gun related bills, hopefully to starve off incidents like that in Aurora, Colo., as well as in Newtown, Conn.
It’s not news to say the least, Texas and this administration has been at each other’s throats for four years now. Needless to say, whatever comes out of Washington will be challenged or dismissed in Texas.
The Texas 83rd has so far, filed 20 gun related bills and there’s more expected. These bills range from shortening the class hours for a concealed handgun license, to open carry laws. Most of these bills were filed in the 2011 legislative session, but met with a lot resistance. Many of those bills fell through the cracks of the session, or died on the floor. But this time around, things should be different.
"It's business as usual in Texas," said Alice Tripp, legislative director of the Texas State Rifle Association.
And that’s so true. After a year of dealing with mentally unstable mass murderers and shocking death totals from rampages that were basically senseless, Texas legislators, Republican dominated, have the numbers, but many wonder, if they have the hearts.
Included in this stack of gun related bills are concealed handguns on college campuses, concealed handguns at public schools and concealed handgun permits. Surprisingly, Democrats are getting in on this action.
Rep. Leticia Van de Putte, D, San Antonio, would have veteran’s status listed on their licenses. Rep. Eddie Rodriquez, D, Austin, would require training for buyers for certain guns. Sen. Rodney Ellis, D, Houston, wants to require background checks at gun shows and Rep. Ryan Guillen, D, Rio Grande City, wants to make it a misdemeanor ‘for a public employee to turn a licensed concealed handgun carrier away from a public building(Texas Tribune).'
While Obama is turning doctors into intelligence gathering agents, many around the country is begging to differ with him and stepping up to the plate on this serious issue of gun control. Many are living in fear of another mass murder scenario, arming themselves and as such, what Obama did the other day is completely useless, worthless and basic theatrics(Reality, Texas).
