In-Shape Health Clubs, the fast-growing Stockton-based health club chain, announced an asset purchase of a gym in Tracy from fitness entrepreneur Dave Morrison of Bay Area Family Fitness. The gym, located at 2311 N. Tracy Blvd, in Tracy, will compliment the company’s existing two locations in town and bring its statewide total to 52 clubs.
“We’re thrilled to expand our presence in Tracy with a conveniently located, affordable fitness facility,”said Paul Rothbard, In-Shape’s Chief Executive Officer. “It’s the perfect time of year to offer our members and the community even more options for staying fit and sticking to those New Year’s resolutions. Our new club will help residents stay healthy and active this winter.”
Morrison was also pleased with the transaction. “This asset sale will allow us to focus on the continued development of our Bay Area Family Fitness Centers in the immediate Bay Area, and we know that In-Shape will provide our Tracy members with the quality of service and excellence of facilities to which they are accustomed.”
In-Shape is expected to make improvements to the facility’s equipment, add new interior paint, and upgrade fixtures and décor. Current Tracy members will be invited to use In-Shape’s nearby location on 11th Street for the first 30 days. Members can also upgrade to a Platinum Plus membership, giving them full access to all In-Shape locations including the extremely popular In-Shape Sport club on Tracy Blvd. This club, and others like it throughout California, offers outdoor pools and waterslides, racquetball, tennis courts, free group exercise and cycling classes, Kids Clubs, and other activities and amenities.
"We believe that everyone in the communities we serve should be able to join our facilities and live a healthy lifestyle,”said Rob Farrens, In-Shape’s Executive Vice President. “Our new Tracy club will deliver great value and provide the best equipment, environment, and support team available!”
In-Shape Health Clubs is ranked one of the top 20 health club companies in the United States and owns and operates 52 locations in California. Founded in 1981 with one club and a vision for helping people stay healthy and have fun, the company has experienced consistent success and growth throughout the state.
Morrison, a 34-year veteran of the health club industry, founded Bay Area Family Fitness last year and operates three large facilities in the Bay Area – two in San Jose and one in Pleasanton.
Terms of the acquisition were not released.
