Teanne Harris is the bride who was jilted days before her wedding: and then turned her wedding reception into a party for the old folks.
Matt Harker might one day begin to rue his mistake. For he jilted his intended, the bride to be Teanne Harris, 6 days before their wedding day last Saturday.
Teanne, with her mother, then went to see if she could get back the deposit they had paid for the wedding party and were told that no, at such short notice this was not possible. At this point most would simply retreat into the shell of rejection but not Ms. Harris. She decided that since a party was booked and a party had to be paid for then by dang why not have a party? Which is exactly what she did, she had a party on what was to have been her wedding day but without the wedding or the recalcitrant groom.
For the Asbury Court Retirement Community was right across the road from the booked caterer and, well, it's not every year that the inhabitants of a retirement community get a great big Halloween party, is it? And the reception was already, given the date, going to be a Halloween themed one.
Instead of letting a Halloween-themed wedding reception go to waste, Harris, 34, and her mom decided to move the festivities across the street. "She came in one day and said she wanted to make a donation," said Eichenfeld. "I don't think she knew anybody here, and we don't get offers like that. So we were thrilled and so were our residents. It came out of the blue."
By all account, the bash was a blast. The wedding DJ played oldies. The tables were decked out with candy jars and feathered masquerade masks. The banquet hall served up a senior-friendly meal. And the guests dressed up as everything from Dracula to Raggedy Ann. As for the bridal bouquet, Harris had it placed in the chapel of the old folks' home.
Ms. Harris is now in Hawaii on what should have been her honeymoon and which obviously isn't. And the woman running he retirement center says she hopes she finds a good young man who deserves her and so say all of us.
For that is the mistake that Matt Harker made: a woman with a heart of gold has a value beyond that of rubies as the Good Book says. And if it doesn't then perhaps it ought to.

i actually found matt harker on facebook yesterday and was advised directly by him that she was not jilted...they agreed ahead of time to call it off. a friend of his on a facebook page giving praise and support to teanne said matt was actually in hawaii with her and they remain great friends. it was definitely awesome of her to donate her party to the retirement home, but she has been painted to be a devastated jilted bride, and she is not. once again, news says/does whatever it wants without verifying.
This is true- they did mutually call it off, and its not fair to him that the media has made him look out to be a senseless person. No one has rights to make judgement without the full story. Teanne does have a big heart and gave a great gift to the retirement home. It was a job well done on her and her mother's part for making the best of an unfortunate situation. It makes me happy to see that there are still good people in the world willing to give for nothing in return. In regards to all the future holds, I wish both of them the best. Lets keep focus on what this was really about- the kindness of giving, not a called off wedding. As we will learn weddings are called off all the time. Teanne, keep your head up and you seem to have the support of many strangers. And to Matt- the only fault in this of yours is not speaking up sooner. Good luck to you as well. Things happen for a reason.
If Matt replied to Liz on Facebook, he left much out of his story. The real story here is true - Teanne did get jilted, and she did donate everything arranged for her wedding to the retirement home.
Mother of the Bride.
She is a good person and if that poop jilted her, then karma is a beawtch. Wish I could be there when he gets his. Ya done good, girl. Hopefully, he put some money up front also.
