The first day of the second week of the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival kicked off on April 19, 2014 at the Polo Grounds in Indio, CA. After the surprise filled first week of the festival, the second week came with a high bar of expectation. And the first day of the festival did not disappoint. The biggest surprise came during The Replacements set when Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day joined the band for the entire set (while singer Paul Westerberg, recovering from a bad back, performed laying down on a couch).
Like the first week, the largest crowd's were found at the Electronic Dance Music tent with DJ's like Zedd, and Glitch Mob drawing in massive crowds. Headliner Outkast performed a well-received set without the help of any guests (last week featured Janelle Monae and Future), with the set including hits like "Ms. Jackson" "So Fresh and So Clean" "The Way You Move" and "Hey Ya!"
Other performers on the first day of the second week of the festival includes: The Knife, Broken Bells, Ellie Goulding, Chromeo, HAIM, Neko Case, AFI, Martin Garrix, Bonobo, Bryan Ferry, The Afghan Whigs, The Cult, Bastille, Flume, Aloe Blacc, Jagwar Ma, A$AP Ferg, Grouplove, Woodkid, Carnage, Shlomo, Gareth Emery, Michael Brun, MS MR, Kate Nash, Hot Since 82, Damian Lazarus, GOAT, Nina Kraviz, Anthony Green, Duke Dumont, The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Solomun, ZZ Ward, Anti-Flag, Caravan Palace, Flatbush Zombies, Deorro, Waxahatchee, Title Fight, Davide Squillace, DJ Falcon, Dum Dum Girls, Austra, Tom Odell, Dixon, Wye Oak, Crosses, Mako, The Preatures, The Bots, Gabba Gabba Heys.
