It was reported by the Huffington Post on Feb. 25, 2013 that Lynsi Torres who is the owner, and President of In-N-Out Burger has no plans to expand her burger joint.

Torres who is thirty is known as the youngest female billionaire. Torres has helped the company to grow to an estimated 1.1 billion dollar corporation.

However even with all the popularity of In-N-Out Burger Torres says she is not ready to expand nor will she franchise the burger joint that is loved by many celebrities like Warren Buffett.

The latest viral fan of In-N-Out is two time Academy Award winner Ang Lee, who won for directing the “Life of Pi”.

Ang Lee the night of his Oscar win was seen eating a big In-N-Out Burger and holding his Oscar win in his other hand.

Torres explained that her company is content at this time with the 281 stores that she has within five states. She says that “the company does not franchise because this helps maintain control over food quality, restaurant cleanliness and its overall image.”

Torres when asked in an interview stated “we’re definitely not franchising, and we’re not ever going to sell’.

In-N-Out Burger has an unchanged formula that they have used for 65 years and has not changed their menu since it was started by the original owners in 1948 by Harry and Esther Snyder who are Torres’ grandparents.

Also part of In-N-Out success has to do with the low turn over the company have with employees. They believe in fairly paying their employees, new hires receive $10 an hour and the company prefers to promote from within.

In 2012 In-N-Out store managers generally made $120,000 annually on average, which is more than double compare to food service managers nationwide who made around $48,000 per year according to the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Torres also pointed out some clear facts about why the company is slow on expansion because none of the restaurants have freezers and microwaves so the food is made fresh from the two distribution facilities located in California and Texas.

The buns are baked fresh daily, the potatoes are sliced in the stores and the 100% American chuck beef is free of any additives or preservatives and lettuce is hand leafed. That is what separates In-N-Out from its competitors.

According to Torres if the company opens more In-N-Out Burger that is further away it would mean more distribution facilities and a huge change to In-N-Out’s supply chain.

However throughout the years In-N-Out has come against some competition such as Shake Shack, Smashburger and Five Guys. All of these burger joints have stepped up expansion to different states and some different countries.

In-N-Out’s concept of quality management and freshness of their burger has kept them thriving and successful.
