Pop star Katy Perry has become the latest musical artist to launch a record label. Rolling Stone reported Tuesday that the “Birthday” singer has began a new chapter in her musical career by launching Metamorphosis Music with Capitol Records. The label has already signed Jordanian pop singer Ferras and have released his self-titled EP.
Not only has Perry executive produced the EP, she also duets with Ferras on the single “Legends Never Die” and has invited the L.A.-based artist to appear as the support artist on her upcoming North American tour beginning on June 22. The new venture has Perry excited and she is also enthusiastic about her first artist.
Perry said in a statement, “Ferras is a man with a message and a unique, lyrical way of communicating his perspective on life that makes you feel connected to every note when you listen. [The EP’s] ‘Speak in Tongues’ is a song with raw emotional power that I wish I wrote. I believe he is going to be an important artist to watch unfold. I am so ecstatic the world gets to hear his music now both online and on tour with me.”
The hit maker first met Ferras in 2007 when he first signed with Capitol Records. Both were new artists at the time, but Perry is hoping her success can help fuel the career of a very talented singer. Ferras is just as excited to be working with the “Prism” singer. He said, “Her instincts are really on point. She is very blunt and doesn’t sugarcoat things, which I appreciate. Also, she gave me the freedom to do what I wanted musically and was a natural partner.”
Katy Perry teased the news of her record label on Twitter on Monday. The “HUGE announcement” of the launch of Metamorphosis Music is just another notch in the belt for Perry. As for Ferras, he is not a stranger to Perry fans. He has been opening for Perry on her “Prismatic World Tour.”
