This article is written in memory of Barbara Rekart. Barb blessed the world with almost 82 years of her physical existence. Anyone who knew her could attest to her tough exterior and soft, compassionate heart.
She wasn’t any ordinary senior citizen, independent at her core; she took care of herself and always lent a helping hand to others up until her last few months. Barbara was active in her church and she loved spending time with her family.
Her niece Mary Custard talked about their relationship in her eulogy.
In her words, “Aunt Barb and I shared many secrets and had a lot of fun shopping and spending time together. Our relationship was more than just aunt and niece, we were best friends. After my mother passed, her sister, I depended on her to talk to when I was sad. I also shared my happy times with her.”
She continued, “My birthday was last Saturday and I spent it with Aunt Barb as in past years. As my birthdays come and go, I’ll always remember the last birthday I spent with her.”
Barb was full of life and always brightened the days of her loved ones. On Monday, July 11, the loss of Barbara Rekart overshadowed and dimmed the world of those who knew her. But, in that same moment of time, when she crossed, the universe grew brighter as she became part of it!
May anyone who is suffering a loss, work to focus your attention on the happy memories. Celebrate your loved ones life, they would want it this way!
