With one of the warmest smiles this side of Heaven, Pastor, Charles "Father" Hayes of Chicago's Cosmopolitan Church of Prayer left an indelible mark on gospel music with a career spanning decades and impacting generations. "Father" Hayes passed away on Wednesday, February 12,2014 leaving behind a loving legacy of gospel music greatness and a word ministry bar none.

Dr. Hayes was very passionate with is ministry, not compromising with the devil and is known for speaking the truth - declaring the word of God. He was very involved with every aspect of the church for he put his all into this ministry. He was rooted and grounded in "traditional" gospel and you could catch him singing, preaching, teaching and praying on any given Sunday, adding his humorous touch but still telling it like it is. -Cosmopolitan C.O.P.

Known for his paternal nature and compassion for all, the moniker "Father" was thereby applied to the Pastor by members of the renown Cosmopolitan Church of Prayer and Chicagoans from all over. "Father" Hayes organized the Cosmopolitan Church of Prayer in April 1959, two years after his ordination into gospel ministry. Of the many accolades bestowed upon the long standing ministry, Cosmopolitan is a landmark ministry in the Chicago area. The church will celebrate it's 55th year in April.

Let the high praises of God be in their mouth, and a two edged sword in their hand...Ps. 149:6

Pastor Hayes made his way to Chicago once he completed High School. From there he embarked on a journey as a musician that quickly led him to ministry as a preacher. From there, Dr. Hayes carved out a tangible legacy leading one of the world's foremost gospel choirs. The choir opens each broadcast with original music providing the signature Chicago sound that has since been heard worldwide.

The Cosmopolitan COP Church Choir recorded such gospel gems as "Jesus Can Work It Out", "Before I Take It Back", "He's Keeping Me", "Turn It Over to Jesus", "Heaven Is My Goal" and countless others that bolstered the midwest gospel supremacy of which Chicago is the epicenter.
