In like a lion, out like a lamb (Video)

St. Patrick’s Day, Good Friday, Easter, Passover, the Ides of March and Daylight Savings Time. March is slam full of holidays.

As I mentioned the other day in the chicken satay expose, March 1 is the sticky holiday, National Peanut Butter Lover’s day. Do not get this holiday mixed up with April 2, National Peanut Butter and Jelly Day or September 13, which is National Peanut Day.

March 5 is Multiple Personality Day. This observance was started by six different people all in the same body. This psychological disorder has been the subject of many mystery thriller movies and it’s safe to say actor Jim Carrey may just be the poster boy for this holiday. If you are at the office or in the grocery store and you encounter someone talking to themselves, do not be alarmed. It’s just somebody celebrating Multiple Personality Day.

March 7 is National Cereal Day. Again, don’t confuse this day with October 7 which is National Serial Killer Day, a holiday that should really be celebrated with Multiple Personality Day. But enough about mental health.

Girl Scouts day is March 12 and March 14 is National Potato Chip Day. Goddess of Fertility Day, March 18, celebrates Aphrodite, Venus de Milo and Jennifer Love Hewitt. I usually cruise the singles bars to celebrate this one.

National Goof-off Day is March 22; another one I like to celebrate more than once a year and March 25 is International Waffle Day. I like to celebrate this by goofing off at the IHOP and order a fitting dish for this holiday.

Taco Waffles

1 Lb. Ground Beef

1 cup Salsa

2 Jalapeno Peppers, Seeded and Sliced

¼ Cup Taco Seasoning

8 Belgian Waffles

Shredded Mexican Blend Cheese, Shredded Lettuce, Chopped Tomatoes, Cubed Avocado, Sliced Olives

Sour Cream

Brown the beef in the taco seasoning and drain grease. Stir in jalapeno and salsa and warm through.

Top the waffles with the meat mixture and add you choice of the rest of the ingredients.

March 28 is Something on a Stick Day. This is a good one because sticks are always plentiful and you can put a bunch of things on the end of a stick. Corndogs, popsicles, marshmallows, fondue, almost anything. Here’s a good one to help celebrate.

Chipotle Lime Shrimp Kabob

1 lb. Large Shrimp, Peeled and deveined

3 Tbs. Fresh Cilantro, Chopped

2 Cloves Garlic, Peeled and Smashed

1 Tbs. Olive Oil

1 Tbs. Brown Sugar

1 Tsp. Chili Powder

1 Tsp. Smoked Paprika

1 Dried Chipotle Pepper, Cut Open

1 Cup Fresh Lime Juice

Skewers

Mix everything in a glass bowl and marinade shrimp for no longer than twenty minutes. Skewer the shrimp. You may alternate, bell peppers, onions or cherry tomatoes on the skewers.

Grill kabobs until shrimp turns pink and 3-5 minutes per side.

Again, don’t confuse Something on a Stick Day with something on a Shingle Day. I hate it when I get those two mixed up.

March 29 is National Mom & Pop Small Business Day, so stay away from the mega-marts and shop locally. Your Mom & Pop will be happy you did.

Finally, March 30 is Take a Walk in the Park Day. I’ve always thought it would be cool to combine Take a Walk in the Park Day with National Serial Killers Day and Multiple Personality Day and celebrate all three of them at the same time. Celebrate them alone, and at night!

Happy March holidays everybody.
