In eyes of left, Obama back to being funniest person alive

I’d love to see Barack Obama quit his day job (whatever that might be at this point), but if it were to pursue a career as a stand-up comic, I would hope for his sake that those whose opinions he respects would counsel him against it. Obama is a lot of things personality-wise: He’s petulant, he’s bitter, he’s sarcastic, and he’s laughable.

That last adjective, which might be defined as “so ludicrous as to invite derision,” is not meant as a compliment. Yet at least one of Obama’s straggling acolytes on the left has dragged out of mothballs the antiquated argument that he is wittiest president ever. That would be the Daily Beast’s Dean Obeidallah, who fancies himself to be something of a comic. He writes:

While President Obama’s approval ratings may be in the tank, there’s still one arena in which he’s riding high: His use of comedy to taunt and undermine his political foes. There has simply never been a president better at that.

Obama has been at it again the last few weeks, taking his act on the road to comically skewer the climate change deniers. Just this week we saw Obama mock them at the League of Conservation Voters. There, Obama slammed Republicans who refuse to give an answer on whether mad-made climate change is real with comments like, “I’m not a scientist.” Obama said: “I’m not a doctor either, but if a bunch of doctors tell me that tobacco can cause lung cancer, then I’ll say, ‘OK.’”

[…]

I would quote some of the other jokes on the climate denier tour, but, to be honest, they aren’t that funny on paper. [Emphasis added]

I don’t know. If they are as uproariously funny as the gem that you consider worth repeating, bring it on!

Better still, let me have a go at it. When the administration rolled out Healthcare.gov (which in itself was pretty damned funny!), some joker came up with the sidesplitting idea to make the acronym for the toll-free number 1-800-F**KYO. Hilarious, yo, Dean? That may have not have been Obama himself, but insofar as he is president, the run (to analogize it with baseball) gets charged to him.

Speaking of baseball, has Obeidallah not yet witnessed Obama’s fastball, which he recently trotted out again in an impromptu performance at a little league game?

But enough. The sad reality is many people on the left are angry about the state of the nation, which is understandable, and fix the blame for their disaffection entirely on House Republicans, which is not. Nevertheless, partisan hacks like Obeidallah delight in the president’s mockery of his opponents, which they would find galling and unbecoming of the office of President if he were Republican. Ultimately, that says more about them than it does about Obama.
