In defense of Alois Bell

This column knows what you are thinking. It seems like only yesterday there was an essay condemning this person.

Actually, it was 48 hours ago. But once a bunch of folks weigh in on one side of an issue, it is time to reflect.

To use kindness and faith and one’s heart to assess. When liberals are lining up against someone who is struggling and hurt, there should be further analysis that is not knee jerk and nasty.

Certain moot subjects are in fact not. Moot that is.

There are scenarios that are self-evident.

Climate change is a fact. The idiot who thought his dog should be put down because said idiot believed said dog was gay is an idiot. The GOP positions inre guns and rape are wrong.

Just to cite but a few facts or circumstances that are clear-cut and obvious.

But most people and situations are complicated.

Alois Bell, it has been written, found God when she was pregnant and homeless.

Faith sustained her through trying times. She has a church with 15 followers. That is about 14 more people listening to her than most folks have heeding their words. Some established churches here in Baltimore don't have congregations even nearing triple digits.

Our country, starting some time with Ronald Reagan, yes he’s a saint, and continuing today, pits all those in need against one another.

The 98% or more accurately the 99% are told that programs they paid for their entire lives are entitlements while massive bailouts are necessary to maintain the corrupt economy.

Why isn’t it mandatory to prevent the starving elderly from dying in the streets in the near future? Isn’t that more important than this bank or that investment firm being able to stay in business? To launder drug money or make massive mistakes about foreclosures.

Sometimes, people under pressure who are invisible to our government and so-called leaders, say ugly things and take action that they may regret.

It might be less embarrassing to hide behind God when you need the tip money for something else for your family. Or your church.

Of course Pastor Bell would have been easier to defend if she hadn’t taken umbrage and demanded a host of people be fired. Or she hadn't picked on the wait staff of a large franchise restaurant.

Don't foreget that Applebee's easily tossed the waitress overboard.

But if Pastor Bell was the Governor of Wisconsin, it would be business as usual.

Or the top pol in Michigan. Or Kansas.

In regard to firing folks and hiding behind God that is.
