In Christ Realities: By Jesus Christ the grace of God has abounded to you

Are you troubled by your past? You know you have confessed your sin, you do your best to overcome it, but it still seems to hang on, gnawing away at your conscience. The memories of past sins haunt you, telling you, “You are not good enough for God. He doesn’t want anything to do with you, you worthless sinner.”

Regrettably, this is the situation that most Christians find themselves in at one time or another; and often for prolonged periods of time if they never learn their identity in Christ Jesus. There is Good News for you! That Good News is the grace of God, our Father.

It is time for you to change your focus and get an “In Christ” reality check. Have you received the Lord Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior? Then you need to learn your identity in Christ. You need to know what the reality is, from God’s point of view, for everyone who is in Christ; and that includes YOU!

Romans 5:14-15

14 Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam’s transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come.

15 But not as the offense, so also is the free gift. For if through the offense of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, has abounded to many.

Death reigned from the moment Adam sinned all the way to Moses, even though no law had yet been given; and even over those who did not sin in the same way Adam did. Death continued to reign unmatched by all. However, Adam became a “type”, a “figure” of one to come and be born among men. Even as sin and its wages of death were passed down to all of Adam’s descendants, so is the free gift of eternal life passed on from One Man to all who will choose to believe in Him.

However, the free gift is not as the offense. Through the offense of Adam many were doomed to die, but the grace of God is much more abundant. The gift of grace, which is by One Man, Jesus Christ, has been made superabundant to many; to all who choose to believe. Superabundant? Yes, superabundant. For not only is the transgression and death of Adam, which has been passed to all his descendants, overcome by the free gift of grace, but all sin of all humanity from beginning to end has been atoned for.

The gift of grace is free because only a perfectly sinless man who has kept the entirety of the Mosaic Law could be offered up as the perfect sacrifice, the Lamb of God, to not only cover our sin, but to redeem us from all sin – past, present and future. Only One Man has ever lived such a life, the Man Jesus Christ of Nazareth. Because of Jesus’ perfect life, sacrifice and resurrection, the grace of God super-abounds to every one of us – including YOU!

No matter what sins you have committed, no matter how many sins you have committed, no matter how many times you have been overcome by iniquity and sin the grace of God superabounds to you. Your sins are forgiven by the grace of God because of the sacrifice of our Lord Jesus Christ. God’s unmerited favor (grace) is yours! Neither you or I could ever earn the gift of grace, but God loves us so much, so deeply, so passionately and so purely that He causes His grace to flow freely into our lives to overcome all evil because Jesus Christ deserves to have His sacrifice free all who would choose to believe upon Him and receive Him as Lord.

Do you still not feel worthy? Okay, you’re not; neither am I. The point is, Jesus Christ IS worthy, and He chose to pay the ransom for our lives; He chose to become sin for us and to receive into Himself the full payment and reward for our sin so the love of His Father could flow freely to all who would just believe and receive by grace through faith His free gift of forgiveness and eternal life.

Our worthiness is not the question because we have none, but Jesus’ worthiness is indeed the answer that stands before our Father whenever anyone accuses us – human or evil spirit – and causes the Judge to render the verdict “Justified and Innocent” to the charges against us.

Scripture is given in the American King James Version.
