In Chicago art and sound installation illuminates The Bean

You are not imagining things if when downtown Chicago you hear sounds and see colors emanating from Millennium Park. Since Feb. 10, 2012, Luminous Field, a sound and video installation, has been drawing even more crowds than usual to Cloud Gate, the park’s popular sculpture better known as “The Bean.”

Designed by Luftwerk, a collaborative name used by School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) graduates Petra Bachmaier and Sean Gallero, Luminous Field contains digital geometrical lights accompanied by music composed by Owen Clayton Condon of Chicago’s Third Coast Percussion.

The art installation will only be up through Feb. 20 so best is to slip in a visit to the park in the remaining days either between 6 and 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday or 6 to 10 p.m. Friday through Saturday.

To hear about Luminous Field’s creation, stop by Millennium Park 7 p.m. Feb. 15 to converse with SAIC Adjunct Professor Lou Mallozzi. The Luftwerk artists have created multi-media installations for Frank Lloyd Wright’s Fallingwater and Robie House, JFK Airport and the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art.
