Today marks the first day of Austin's famous SXSW festival. If you are one of the thousands that flocked to the Texas capital for a week filled with events and music, your experience doesn't have to stop there.

Austin is known as one of the best running cities in the U.S., thanks to its miles upon miles of trails and runner-friendly roadways. Runtastic, a world leader in the digital health and fitness space, has created a new map for SXSW attendees to experience the best running that Austin has to offer. Ranging from 2.35 to 5.3 miles, the routes are centered around five of the most popular hotels. As many of these hotels are close to Lady Bird Lake, you have an opportunity to run Austin just like a local.

If you are ready to venture outside of the downtown area, you can enjoy several other locations for running, including the Barton Creek Greenbelt, Brushy Creek Trail and the Travis Heights neighborhood.

In addition to running on your own while in Austin, check out of the group runs hosted by a local running store:

  • Sunday, March 9: Runner-specific yoga with Rogue Running (2800 East Whitestone Blvd.)
  • Tuesday, March 11: Tuesday Taco Run at 6 a.m. with Luke's Locker (115 Sandra Muraida Way)
  • Wednesday, March 12: Wednesday Evening Social Run at 6 p.m. with Luke's Locker (115 Sandra Muraida Way)
