Calling the unification bout “personal,” WBC light middleweight titleholder Saul “Canelo” Alvarez is determined to bludgeon WBA light-middleweight champion “No Doubt” Austin Trout on April 20 at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.
A fierce redhead, Alvarez (41-0-1, 30 KOs) last scrapped in September with an easy defense of his crown against interim WBC welterweight titlist Josésito López.
Comparatively, the 27-year-old Trout (26-0, 14 KOs) recently impressed with a resounding unanimous decision triumph over Puerto Rican icon Miguel Cotto on December 1 at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
Trout, a southpaw who is a native of Las Cruces, New Mexico, unanimously outscored “Canelo’s” 35-year-old brother, Rigoberto, to capture his belt in February 2011.
"Austin Trout impressed me with his win over Miguel Cotto and my brother. But I feel that in boxing, it’s my time now, and I will show Trout why I am the best in the division," said Alvarez, 22, a thunderous slugger who began boxing professionally at the ludicrous age of 15. "Champions should fight each other because that’s what true champions do. I know he will be a tough challenge, but I’m confident I will be the unified champion at the end of the night. Beating him will make a statement, and in so doing, I plan to avenge my brother’s loss to him and bring victory home to Mexico too."
Trout is a defensive wizard with a prolific jab and great intelligence.
Unfortunately for the New Mexican with feathery fists, Alvarez is a powerhouse rightfully considered the elite welterweight prospect in the world.
“Bring(ing) victory home to Mexico,” Saul Alvarez will floor Austin Trout within 10 rounds when they tussle next month.
