Improved Bike YYC app will help cyclists in Calgary get around town

Version 2.0 of the Bike YYC application for the iPhone is just about ready to hit the streets as it has recently been submitted to the App Store for approval.

Marketing and communications firm FLIPP shared this good news last week via their webpage.  The new media advertising gurus at FLIPP are promoting the iOS application which they themselves designed and hope to release through the App Store as early as March of this year.

Bike YYC was designed and built in Calgary.  The app remains free thanks to support from Calgary communities concerned about cycling ease and safety within the city.  The project was backed by community developers Hopewell Communities, Genstar, East Village and Walton DM.

The application helps cyclists find pathways, designated bike routes, and shortcuts through Calgary's urban sprawl and endless kilometers of biking trails.  This is not only a good training tool for those looking to log kilometers on their bike, but also a functional app that will help people find their way while traveling by pedal power.

Many new features will be incorporated in the new version of Bike YYC.  The free download will help you plan the best route from where you are to where you are going using maps from OpenStreetMap.org as well as help you to map your current location to find nearby bike-friendly thoroughfares.

Local bikeshops will be a breeze to find using the app's new bike shop locator option that can easily be toggled on or off.  Bike YYC also promises to keep you up to date with the latest cycling news, also to be available in the newest version of this handy cycling app.
