Imprisoned Pussy Riot band member now hospitalized

Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, one of the female band members comprising the Russian punk rock group Pussy Riot who was sent to a Russian prison in March 2012 for a protest performance the band performed in Moscow's main cathedral left prison today for a Russian hospital.

According to Russian Federal Prison Service spokeswoman Kristina Belousova, Tolokonnikova's medical situation is "nothing serious."

Belousova would not comment on the nature of the band mate’s condition any further according to USA Today.

A Moscow judge sentenced the three Pussy Riot ladies to two years in prison on hooliganism charges back in Aug. 2012. The court case and resulting trial sparked a wave of world-wide protests in support of the band.

Outside the Moscow courtroom, “Free Pussy Riot” supporters chanted "down with the police state" after the sentence was announced.

In Oct. 2012, band mate Yekaterina Samutsevich was released on appeal.

Samutsevich had spent six months in prison prior to her release..

The same judge that freed Samutsevich said that her two remaining band mates, Nadezhda Tolokonnikova and Maria Alyokhina, should serve out the remainder of their two-year prison sentences.
