Most people don’t think about their tires until there is a problem. But, your tires are one of the most – if not the most – important pieces of equipment on your car. Well maintained tires have good traction, in other words they grip the road surface well, during acceleration, turning and stopping.
Proper tire inflation, along with periodic rotation, will keep the treads wearing evenly on all four tires. It also helps your car handle better, safer and gives you better fuel economy.
Under inflated tires will cause abnormal tread wear, poor handling, loss of fuel economy, poor steering, and loss of stability in corners.
Over inflated tires cause a reduction in ride comfort. They are more easily damaged from potholes and other road hazards. And there is less contact with the road surface.
Tire manufacturers say that tires typically lose about one pound of pressure per month. So, you should carry a tire gauge in your glove box and check your pressures when you fill up your tank.
Check your owner’s manual for the proper tire pressures on your car.
