Last evening I had the priviledge of attending the Daniel Boone School District's 6th Annual Choral Fest at the Daniel Boone High School. I was impressed with the music selections, energy of the chorus members and the directors, and the wonderful performances by each of the choirs. Each school in the district was represented by members of their chorus or select chorus. Those schools were Daniel Boone High School, Daniel Boone Middle School, Amity Intermediate Center, Birdsboro Elementary, and Monocacy Elementary Center.
At a time when many school districts are facing decisions about how to balance their budgets for next year, last night was a timely reminder of how many different aspects of education are important for our children, not just the core subjects. In my estimation, there were over 500 students who performed last night, plus several other students who were involved with the technical aspects including lighting and sound.
Each choir performed two songs, and then all the groups joined together for a final song entitled, "Why We Sing". The elementary students were assembled on the stage, while the middle school and high school choirs surrounded the audience in a circle, or as I have just learned, a "choral hug". The final performance brought tears to the eyes of many audience members, and was a perfect ending to a perfect night filled with great music and many talented singers.
