Today’s cigar review is on the Imperiales by Leon Jimenes. The cigar is manufactured by the La Aurora Cigar Factory in the Dominican Republic and distributed by Miami Cigar Company.
I smoked the Corojo Maduro version for this review. The rest of the blend is comprised of a Dominican binder and a mixture of Dominican, Nicaraguan and Brazilian filler tobacco.
The Imperiales is available in five vitolas: Short Robusto – 4x54; Robusto – 5x50; Churchill – 7x50; Belicoso – 61/4x52 and Toro – 6x50.
The cigars I smoked for this review were provided by the manufacturer.
The Corojo Maduro wrapper is very dark and oily. There was a nice oily sheen that was visible even in the moonlight when I smoked one of the cigars at night. The body of the cigar was firm to the touch and the foot had a slight give.
Both the wrapper and the tobacco at the foot gave off a rich tobacco aroma. The pre-light draw was wide open and I could taste more of that tobacco richness.
The cigar performed very well, it had a good burn and a dark ash. The dark ash was a little flakey at first but firmed up quickly and dropped of naturally at about 1 inch.
The cigar produced a large amount of smoke and had a great room aroma. I could sense a peppery spice on the exhale.
At first I picked up on some cedar and tobacco flavors with a slight bitterness on the short finish. As the smoke progressed, I could taste sweetness along with richer tobacco and woody notes. The peppery sensation on the exhale increased a bit and added to the flavor profile.
The suggested price of the Imperiales is around five dollars and I think that is a great value for this cigar. I enjoyed smoking the Imperiales by Leon Jimenes very much and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good Maduro blend.
