Imogene+Willie denim now available at Blackbird

The first shipment of denim from fashionista favorite Imogene+Willie has arrived at Blackbird in Ballard, giving you the chance to experience some of the most sought-after jeans in the business.

The Barton Jean is the first to arrive - it's a moderate slim-straight fit, with a slightly lower rise than the company's Willie Jean. It's also a bit slimmer from the knee down for a closer silhouette. Made from premium Cone Mills selvage denim, it was woven on antique shuttle looms in the U.S.A.

For the detail-oriented, the Barton Jean features vintage-esque rivets, contrasting gold and copper stitching, orange selvage and the company's '+' emboridered on the middle side of the right thigh.

The initial shipment brought the Barton Jean in a limited number of sizes: 29x32, 30x32, 31x32, 32x32, 32x34, 33x34, 34x32, 34x34 and 36x34.

Imogene+Willie denim had previously previously been available only through their website and at the gas station they converted into a retail space. They recently opened up their collection to a select number of retailers around the world, including Blackbird in Ballard.

The company was started in 2009 in Nashville, Tennessee as a smaller, DIY version of the Sights Denim Systems of Henerdson, Kentucky. Imogene+Willie owners Matt and Carrie Eddmenson had worked at SDS until its closing in 2008, and have subsequently turned their line of jeans into a "cult classic of US denim manufacturers."

To give you an idea of the ideas that helped shaped Imogene+Willie, this is from their website:

We honor an age-old tradition: our jeans are made in American, by Americans. What we can’t sew in-house we outsource to other makers in Small Town, USA. We all take a lot of pride in our brand and quality is job one. I don’t want to come off sounding cliché, but this is the one thing we do that we feel can really change the state of the world we live in. You can’t buy everything made in America, but if you try, you can come close. If history has taught us anything, it’s that this great country of ours will be in even more trouble than it already is if we don’t support the work of our fellow Americans.

The Barton Jean is available now for $250 per pair at Blackbird in Ballard, located at 5410 22nd Ave. NW. For more information, call them at 206-547-2524 or visit BlackbirdBallard.com.
