Immobile confirms that he has signed with Dortmund

Ciro Immobile has been rumored to head to the Bundesliga and now last year’s capo cannoniere in Serie A confirmed Saturday evening after Italy’s match against Ireland that he will be joining Borussia Dortmund on a five-year deal at the beginning of the upcoming season.

"We are waiting for the right time to make to sign off on the contract and to make it official," said Immobile with Italian network Rai.

Immobile confirmed that he would be traveling to Germany to finalize all the details that he had pending in order to make the deal official. His deal would be a blockbuster as Dortmund look to be a greater challenger for the Bundesliga title after two consecutive seasons of seeing Bayern Munich run away with the league title by 20-plus points.

Dortmund are looking to play both Torino and Juventus €19.5 million for his player pass. The move would allow him to be partnered up top with Colombian international after he signed with Die Schwarzgelben in April after a breakout season at Hertha Berlin.

Immobile was also rumored to be heading to Barcelona a few days ago, but the talk of that move quickly drifted away after Hans-Joachim Watzke and Michael Zorc decided to pull the operation. Dortmund would also be offering Immobile €2 million per year in salary.

Immobile broke out in Serie A this season helping Torino to reach seventh place in Serie A and leading the league in scoring with 22 goals; beating out players like Luca Toni, Carlos Tevez, Antonio Di Natale and Gonzalo Higuaín in the process. The player will be flying out on Monday from the Coverciano complex in Florence to make his transfer official with the German club and possibly be presented as well.

Italy will be looking for some important contributions from the native of Torre Anunziata if they look to have a shot to win their fifth World Cup or even come out of Group D.

The Azzurri will kick off their World Cup participation against England, then face Costa Rica and finish off the group stage against Uruguay.
