Despite budget woes, harsh criticisms and her highly publicized debate debacle, voters decide to keep Jan Brewer as Governor of Arizona.
If not for the signing of SB1070, yesterday’s election might have turned out differently.
Earlier this year, two weeks prior to the signing of SB1070, a Rasmussen poll indicated that Brewer had an approval rating of 40% among likely voters; after signing the law her approval jumped to 56%
Brewer and her fight against illegal immigration became national news when the federal government, labor and civil rights groups threatened to sue over the law’s constitutionality; thus casting Brewer in a modern day David and Goliath scenario. Monday the ninth circuit court of appeals heard from both sides and a decision is expected in the coming weeks.
The barrage of challenges facing Arizona over immigration is far from over; it appears that the majority of Arizonans want to give her the opportunity to finish what she started.
