The Department of Homeland Security is underway in a plan to release hundreds of illegal immigrants from jail cells in an effort to prepare for the "sequester". Two views are taking sides with different projections.
On one side Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu stated that Immigration and Customs Enforcement has already released hundreds of prisoners into his county in Arizona. Many Republican law makers have gone on the record stating that this is a White House stunt to put pressure on Congress to come to terms on the cuts mandated for March 1st.
On the other side ICE officials have stated that all the released individuals are still in the removal proceedings. They also stated that these measures were were in anticipation of the budget cuts. It was a simple matter of math. Over 34,000 cell beds are needed each day. If the cuts take place the funding would disappear right away.
The White House was not notified about the release of the detainees President Obama's spokesman said.
