IMAX film festival at the Maryland Science Center, 9 weeks 7 films in Baltimore

Who loves IMAX movies?  Who loves Maryland?  Who loves science?  Who loves…centers???  Well, if you do then put all those together and get ready for a 9 week IMAX film festival at the Maryland Science Center in Baltimore.  During the 9 weeks, starting Tuesday, January 4, 2011, the St. John Properties’ IMAX theater will host 7 different films, and from reading the descriptions below, they all sound great.

Head on down to the Center at 601 Light Street at Baltimore’s Inner Harbor and check out some of the great films.  There is a discount if you are sure you want to see more than one movie.  For $25 you can get tickets for 5 admissions (versus $8/each regular price).  For more information or to buy tickets visit the Science Center’s website.

Maryland Science Center Goes to Extremes for 2011 IMAX Film Festival
9 exciting weeks, 7 action-packed films, 1 really big screen…

Beginning Tuesday, January 4, 2011 the ever-daring Maryland Science Center will thrill audiences with its most extreme IMAX Film Festival ever.  From skiers on the tallest slopes to scientists in the deepest ocean depths…from the pinnacles of athletic and cultural achievement to the unparalleled destruction of Hurricane Katrina…the action-packed festival will take viewers on an intense journey to the extremes of the earth and the human spirit on the enormous five-story St. John Properties IMAX Theater screen.

Throughout the nine-week Festival, the Maryland Science Center’s IMAX theater will showcase seven captivating films that uniquely capture the extreme action and emotion of extraordinary places, events and performances.  All seven films will be screened each day on a rotating schedule.  The Festival will end March 3, 2011

The Maryland Science Center’s IMAX Film Festival includes:                                                                                 

Hurricane on the Bayou
A journey deep into the soul-stirring heart of Louisiana – before, during and after the unprecedented devastation of Hurricane Katrina.

Survival Island
The story of the some of the world’s largest concentrations of penguins, albatrosses, fur seals and elephant seals on the majestic, barren south Atlantic island of South Georgia.

Extreme
A close up view of the world’s best athletes as they challenge the most formidable features of nature, snowboarding perilous untouched mountain peaks, climbing vertical frozen waterfalls and magnificent red-rock spires, and surfing some of the world’s most intimidating waves.

Volcanoes of the Deep Sea
An extraordinary visual and scientific journey to the astounding volcanic habitats of the deep ocean alongside a team of scientists searching for a strange ancient species.

Greatest Places
An exploration of the landforms, ecosystems, and indigenous peoples of seven amazing locations, including Greenland's giant icebergs, Tibet's Chang Tang Plateau, and Iguazu's immense waterfall.

Michael Jordan to the Max
A tribute to the most spectacular athlete of the 20th century, documenting his highlight-reel slam dunks, unyielding work ethic, fiery competitive spirit, and indomitable will to win.

U2 3D
An all-access pass to one of the most astounding concert tours ever, by one of the biggest bands in the world, shot with largest collection of 3D camera technology ever used on a single project

Visitors can purchase tickets to the IMAX Film Festival for $8 per film.  Throughout the Festival, IMAX-only tickets are available and may be purchased separate from regular Maryland Science Center admission. An IMAX Film Festival discount package of five tickets is available for $25.  Tickets must be redeemed during the Film Festival from January 4, 2011 though March 3, 2011.
