It’s been said that if you remember the sixties, then you weren’t really there. Yet somehow the songs from the sixties remain stuck on the soundtrack inside our head. Thanks to Danny Zelisko Presents, if you need some help in jogging your memory of 1960’s and early 1970’s hits, then checking out the Happy Together 30th Anniversary Tour at the Celebrity Theatre in Phoenix on Saturday, July 19, 2014 at 8:00 p.m. is your answer.
In 1984, Mark Volman and Howard Kaylan, aka Flo and Eddie, of the Turtles put together a musical revue, much like the old rock and roll road shows in the late 1950’s, that featured several hit acts from the 1960’s. Known as “The Happy Together Tour,” named after the Turtles number one hit from 1967, the tour continued for a couple of years and then after a hiatus, was resurrected for the 25th anniversary of the tour.
2014 marks the fifth consecutive year of the Happy Together Tour. This year, Flo and Eddie will be joined by Gary Lewis of Gary Lewis and the Playboys, Mitch Ryder & the Detroit Wheels, Mark Farner of Grand Funk Railroad and Chuck Negron of Three Dog Night.
Just in case your memory of the sixties is only by song and not by name, then here’s a refresher. “This Diamond Ring,” (Gary Lewis). “Devil With A Blue Dress/Good Golly Miss Molly,” (Mitch Ryder). “We’re An American Band,” Some Kind of Wonderful,” (Mark Farner/Grand Funk Railroad). “Mama Told Me Not To Come,” “Joy To The World,” (Chuck Negron/Three Dog Night). “Happy Together,” (Flo and Eddie/The Turtles).
As a further memory enhancement, throughout the show, multi–media highlights during each of the performances will reference the time period of the music. Concert goers will hear and see the soundtrack of a forgotten time.
