Pomegranates have been around since the beginning of time and are actually mentioned in the Holy Bible. Some would even argue that the pomegranate is the fruit Eve gave Adam due to its enhancing properties in the brain. The pomegranate is used for a variety of conditions in the human body like the heart, arteries prostate, skin and hemorrhoids. It is also beneficial for the digestive tract, cancers, weight loss, high blood pressure and high cholesterol. “Some people use pomegranate for flu, swelling of the lining of the mouth (stomatitis), gum disease, erectile dysfunction (ED), diabetes and a complication called acidosis, bleeding, and HIV disease. It is also used for preventing prostate cancer, obesity, and weight loss. Pomegranate is used as a gargle for sore throat and it is applied to the skin to treat hemorrhoids.”

Don’t just drink or eat the pomegranate but ensure your diet has plenty of other fruits and vegetables as part of a healthy regimen. Healthy Ohio suggests increasing foods like fruits and vegetable – make them half of your plates, include whole grains, and drink only fat-free or low-fat milk. Foods to decrease are “sodium rich foods like soup, bread, and frozen meals - and choose the foods with lower numbers. Drink water instead of sugary drinks.”
