Image teases new Samsung GS5 UI, features

Samsung is expected to unveil the Galaxy S5 at Mobile World Congress on Feb. 24 in its "Unpacked" event (raised to the fifth power, no less). The latest image the company shared ahead of the event (via Engadget on Tuesday), teases new features that will probably show up on the Korean giant's new flagship phone.

The image shows a series of nine icons for the following categories:

  • Speed,
  • Outdoor,
  • Curiosity,
  • Fun,
  • Social,
  • Style,
  • Privacy,
  • Fitness,
  • Life

These are really categories, and you can expect that the device will have different names for the apps when they appear on the phone itself. In fact, we've taken a look at a pre-release Galaxy S5, and the "Fitness" icon appears on the S Health app.

As rumored, the icons have a flattened appearance, which suggests that the GS5 TouchWiz interface would follow suit. Apple fanboys might accuse Samsung of copying the changes that Apple made to its UI in iOS7, but that is doubtful.

Samsung's Feb. 24 Unpacked Event takes place at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain.
