'IllumiRoom' concept video shows probable Xbox 720 Kinect feature

When a massive leak for Microsoft's roadmap through its next-gen Xbox (aka Xbox 720) leaked last year, it included a feature that projects game video into the room where the player is sitting. We get our first look at this concept in a video released Tuesday by Microsoft Research.

The demo video shows Kinect projecting game video and other visuals into the surrounding room at the command of the player. This can include an expansion of the game world that is seen on the TV screen or stylized visualizations such as snow falling in the room around the player to match the snow falling on the screen.

Here's the official description of the IllumiRoom concept video that states the demo video was capture live without any special effects.

IllumiRoom is a proof-of-concept Microsoft Research project designed to push the boundary of living room immersive entertainment by blending our virtual and physical worlds with projected visualizations. The effects in the video are rendered in real time and are captured live -- not special effects added in post processing.

Additional information about the IllumiRoom concept is expected to be revealed at the CHI 2013 conference in Paris on April 27.
