About Trigeminal Neuralgia
Trigeminal Neuralgia is a neuropathic disorder characterized by episodes of intense facial pain. It has been described as one of the most painful conditions known to human kind. As a result of this horrific pain, Trigeminal Neuralgia is also known as the Suicide Disease because dealing with the pain becomes unbearable and causes those afflicted to take their own lives. It is estimated that 1 in 100,000 people has the disease although the actual figure may be higher due to frequent diagnosis. Currently there is no cure or successful long term treatment for this condition. The Facial Pain Research Foundation has made it their mission to do genetic testing and research in order to help find a cure for Trigeminal Neuralgia and other facial pain disorders.
