ILLUMINATE Film Festival is born!

Just 9 months ago, ILLUMINATE Film Festival was simply a seed and beautiful passion in the heart of its "Dream Team." Wednesday night's pre-festival launch party with GENE of 24 Peaces, directed by Ron Judkins, was the perfect heart-warming experience for birthing the event. From aerial silk performances, peace artists and good eats, vibes were high and hearts were blown wide open. Tears welled in the eyes of attendees as Jaunita Bosman performed a beautiful aerial routine, 20 feet in the sky, to a Dubstep Remix of John Lennon’s "Imagine.”

Thursday May 29 marked the official start of ILLUMINATE with an opening-night ceremony at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre and screening of the world premiere of On Meditation, a fascinating portrait series offering a rare glimpse into how meditation has transformed the personal and professional lives of notable figures including director David Lynch, actor Giancarlo Esposito (Do the Right Thing, The Usual Suspects) and Ohio Congressman Tim Ryan. A Q&A with Director Rebecca Dreyfrus and Susannah Ludwig followed and the evening ended with a mass meditation led by Sarah McLean of McLean Meditation Institute.

The impact was palatable. Some filmgoers left feeling curious about this meditation thing, other more "seasoned meditators" were feeling renewed and rejuvenated towards their daily practice.

Mary D Fisher Theater is hosting an incredible line up of films all day today.

Tonight another world premiere will screen at the Sedona Performing Arts Center: Death Makes Life Possible," a beautiful and ground-breaking journey through one of life’s most taboo topics: death. Immediately after the film, Deepak Chopra, MD and Marilyn Schultz, PhD, will discuss the film and the proposition that death could be the best thing in life.

Show time is 7:30pm. Box office opens at 6:30pm.

Tickets for the entire festival are also still on sale. You can buy them online at up to 9pm the day BEFORE the screening, or pick them up directly from the box office. Come on out to meet the "Dream Team," and be illuminated!
