Illinois video arcade plans weekend celebration of Donkey Kong's 30th birthday

Star Worlds Arcade, the long-time neighborhood video arcade in DeKalb, IL, is getting ready to go ape.

Starting Friday, September 23, Star Worlds is holding a birthday party to celebrate 30 years of Donkey Kong.  The first hit from now-famed video game makers Nintendo, the classic coin-op hit American arcades in August 1981.  It's success literally saved Nintendo of America from a bankruptcy that would have left the US video game industry without it's late 1980s savior.

On Saturday the 24th, Twin Galaxies founder Walter Day will also make an appearance to take photographs for inclusion in the "Ottumwa Time Capsule" project, a historic project attempting to celebrate and preserve the history of the first generations of video gamers for future generations.

A documentary film about Star Worlds entitled A Pocket Full of Tokens and I'm Heading to the Arcade will also be featured as part of the Sycamore Film Festival in Sycamore, IL on Saturday.  In a bit of a double celebration, Star Worlds will be holding a Donkey Kong tournament during the film festival's block party and another Donkey Kong birthday party after the film festival.

Star Worlds Arcade has been in operation since 1985.  More information about the location or any of these events can be found at http://www.StarWorldsArcade.com.
