After the great bus tour of Englewood yesterday by Illinois U. S. Representative Bobby Rush and Illinois Senator Mark Kurt, comments were made that either proves Representative Rush has overstayed his time as an Illinois representative or has one whopping deal with the Gangster Disciples.
Senator Kurt made the comment that he would like to crush the Gangster Disciples as an organization, Rep. Rush replied that the idea of the Gangster Disciples as an organized group is a “ myth” and a “figment of Kurt's imagination” and there is no super structure mega-gang.
It is unlikely that Rep. Rush, being a gang member himself at one time, cannot remember that the Gangster Disciples is the strongest sub – gang of the Folk Nation which is an alliance of street gangs based in Chicago. Or that David ‘King David’ Barksdale who was the original leader of multiple Folk Nation gangs among which the Gangster Disciples is considered one of the most violent gangs in the United States. Or that Larry Hoover was one of the original leaders of the Gangster Disciples.
Maybe Rep. Rush should take another tour, this time with eyes open and take note of the graffiti that covers walls, viaducts, apartment buildings and every other place that gang members can put their mark.
Rep. Rush also owes an apology to Mr. and Mrs. Pendleton for his denial as it was two Gang Disciples, Michael Ward and Kenneth Williams that allegedly murdered their 15-year-old daughter, Hadiya. And needs to apology to every other victim that was either wounded or killed by a Gang Disciples bullet.
Until our Illinois legislators and city leaders quit the denials and admit that gangs, drugs, gang guns and the struggle over gang turf are a real problem; stop the politics and allow law enforcements to truly go after the problem; solutions will not be found and shootings will not decrease.
