Illinois teacher arrested for smoking pot at school during wrestling meet

Peter Mulloy, 50, a special education teacher at Warren Township High School is free on bond after a story became public on Thursday via the Daily Herald. Mulloy was reportedly caught smoking marijuana under the bleachers at the Warren Township High School on Saturday, under the bleachers during a wrestling meet.

Antioch Police Chief Craig Somerville of the in northern Illinois town said that an off-duty officer found the teacher smoking in the gym during an IHSA sectional wrestling tournament. The off-duty officer smelled the pot, followed the scent to below the bleachers where he confronted Mulloy. Then the officer called the Antioch police and had the teacher arrested. He was charged with possession of cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was freed on $120 bond with a court date which was not disclosed to the media. The school district’s Interim Superintendent Mary Perry Bates said the teacher has been teaching at Warren Township High School since 2007. She was quick to add that Mulloy was a tournament spectator and in attendance as a coach of the school’s wrestling team. Bates would not comment regarding disciplinary measures – if any – because, she said, it’s a personnel matter. She said that the school district's board has been notified and are dealing with the matter in terms of the board's policy.
