Illinois head coach John Groce continues to make an impact for the Fighting Illini, this time adding the highly coveted point guard prospect Quentin Snider (Louisville, Ky/ Ballard). Snider is the No. 28 ranked player in the 2014 recruiting class according to ESPN. Snider committed to the Fighting Illini on Sept. 12
This is Groce's second huge commitment in the past couple weeks including the No. 36 ranked player in Leron Black (Memphis, Tenn./White Station) and another four star Michael Finke (Champaign, Ill./Centennial) . Illinois got exactly what they needed with landing the point guard prospect, who de-committed from Louisville. Snider fits in line with Groce's up tempo style of basketball and is a great addition to the Illini backcourt.
The 6-foot-1 160 pound point guard should be able to step in right away and contribute for the Illini. He likes to get up and down the floor and is comfortable shooting both the mid-range and three-point shot. His playing style would translate well into coach Groce's style and he could potentially be a very special player.
The Fighting Illini looks like they will be a force in the up coming years and even more so now that Groce is getting the players that he recruited into his system. Groce and his team went 23-13 and 8-10 in the Big Ten last season. The 2014 recruiting class coupled with the 2013 class highlighted by four star shooting guards Kendrick Nunn (Chicago, Ill./ Simeon) and Malcolm Hill (Belleville, Ill/ Belleville East) and four star forward Austin Colbert (Gladstone N.J./ Gill St. Bernard) is going to be a formula for future success.
Fighting Illini fans should be excited for the upcoming seasons as Groce is putting a stamp on a spectacular recruiting class. Illinois should be considered as serious national championship contenders in the next few years.
