Illegal immigration in California front and center

With the silly season in full swing, candidates are taking sides in an effort to wrangle enough votes to get or stay in office. California is ripe with many contentious races and the home to the largest Tea Party organization and illegal immigration population.

California’s budget has wallowed in the red the past two years, many tie the root-cause to benefits doled out to illegal aliens. Gubernatorial candidate Steve Poizner, a Republican says he will put end to all taxpayer-funded services to undocumented immigrants, including denying their children public education and health care.

"We're just out of money ... and one of the reasons the state's in trouble is because of illegal immigration," said Poizner, who claimed California spends more than $10 billion annually on services for illegal immigrants, in an article in the San Francisco Chronicle.

"I'm going to be the truth teller in this campaign. As governor I'm going to stop illegal immigration once and for all," Poizner, said at the California State GOP convention.

The tough talk didn’t sit well within the Latino community. Univision, the largest Spanish language network, said Poizner's statements were the beginning of "a frontal war against our community."

The budgetary talk didn’t get any easier from Digger’s Realm. In a story written by Los Angeles County Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich, LA County could expect to pay more than $1 billion per year on illegal immigrations and their children.

“This number does not even include the costs of education.”

“LA County spent $50 million in January alone for food stamps and other welfare services. That's per month. Lets calculate this... 50 x 12, $600 million, then add in the $500 million for the health care and the $350 million for public safety,” Antonovich explained.

He goes on to explain these staggering numbers do not include public school education. “And that's just public spending through the government, imagine the private costs people are paying in terms of higher insurance rates to cover all the illegal alien drivers without insurance who get in accidents or the expense people are paying due to being victims of identity theft when an illegal steals their identity to get a job or housing and the depression that occurs when you get a tax notice from the IRS for monies you didn't earn.”

LA County reported in April 2007 that illegal aliens were receiving as much as $35 million per month in CalWorks and food stamps. By August of the next year the program was handing out more than $37 million per month. Now the numbers have reached $50 million a month in benefits to illegal immigrants.

“If you've been hearing that illegal aliens are leaving the United States, you're being lied to. The numbers prove out the truth,” Antonovich said. “This is all fraudulent monies obtained by illegal aliens and if there is a mass amnesty passed for illegal aliens this number is surely to triple or quadruple.”

Antonovich anticipates the money paid out to illegal immigrants to continue their uphill climb ($3-$4 billion per year) if nothing is done about the masses migrating to Los Angeles.

“Of course people who live there are not thinking logically or thinking ahead. Many of them are sympathetic supporters of illegal aliens. If they thought parts of Los Angeles were bad now, wait until a tripling of public service users hit their county,” he said.

According to Supervisor Antonovich illegal aliens cost Americans around $9 billion a year in education expenses as reported in the 2004 statement from the Federation for American Immigration Reform. A report from the same group in 2005 entitled “‘Breaking the Piggy Bank: How Illegal Immigration is Sending Schools Into the Red,’ put the national costs without including free-and-low cost lunches or English as a Second Language (ESL) at $28.6 billion per year.”

As California’s unemployment edges past the 12 percent mark and the budget operating in the red, politicians will have to make bold decisions when it comes to solving the budget and illegal immigration quagmire the state is staring down.

Nice job California, you gave all the State's revenue to illegals and now you are turning into a third world State.

Don't expect the rest of America to bail your dumb butts out. You wanted illegals, not you pay for them.

  • jj 2 years ago

Do you have a link to the article quoted?

Look up AMERICAN SUICIDE by Gov. Lamm, 2004 on the net. Read it! Think about it! Make sure that you vote for your own best interests. We really cannot afford to lose California.

  • crazy horse 2 years ago

legalize them! the problem will be softened, many that don't pay taxes will have to pay, and the next generation will pay all their taxes, and we will all move forward together, as on nation...
    LEGALIZE THE ILLEGAL ALLIES!

  • Estoban 2 years ago

    @ crazy horse,

For every lawbreaking illegal alien that would get amnesty, there would be 20 more illegal aliens following. It does not work.

  • Jim Reva 2 years ago

Saw 3rd world status for California coming like a freight train.

How can that state keep increasing its poor, low income, uneducated, non tax paying population by leaps and bounds and expect to find the extra money to pay for it.

Want to see how California turns out.....go to Tijuana and see.

  • Bowman 2 years ago

    Crazy Horse,
I agree, put the illegals on this path to legalization, I-5 to Tijuana, I-35 to Nueva Loredo, Aer Lingus to Ireland, Air China to Beijing, KAL to Seoul, Varig to Brazil, etc.

ICE should paint "Path to Legalization" on their deportation buses, the illegals would all be jumping to get on board.

California is the poster child for liberals who think that the U.S. should let all the worlds poor and uneducated come to this country, legal or not. California is definitely not the only state in trouble, in part, because of illegals. But it is our fault. We keep re-electing the same idiot politicians who pander to the illegal lovers and their advocates (Reid, Pelosi, Gutierrez). Nobody like the illegals yet very few of our pols have the balls to stand up, speak the truth and do what is right. Illegals are killing this country, driving states to bankruptcy and no one wants to do a darn thing about it. Nobody wants to enforce our immigration laws and then deport, nobody wants to admit the anchor baby law is a farce, drop all welfare, food stamps and healthcare to illegals. We are stuck educating them thanks to the Supreme Court. We Americans MUST vote out the illegal lovers and elect true patriots who will stand up for US and not illegals, then maybe we can help legal citizens

It's a myth to think that legalizing millions of illegal aliens will do anything but give us MORE illegal immigration! Americans will NEVER accept another amnesty. The free ride is over! WE'RE BROKE! ILLEGAL ALIENS GO HOME!

  • Delaware Bob 2 years ago

Illegal aliens are destroying this Country, and one would have to be almost blind not to see this. How much longer do we have to support these illegal aliens? How much longer do we have to school their illegal alien children? How much longer are we going to let them have our jobs? How much longer are we going to put up with all the crime, stolen identities, forged documents, fake green cards? How much longer are we going to allow these illegal aliens to send money out of this Country and bring our Country down? Oh, amnesty will correct all this. WRONG! Nothing will change except we wouldn't be able to call them illegal aliens any more. Let's get rid of these illegal aliens! Let's get them back to their own Country where they belong!

I'm from Delaware, and we are pressing to get the Oklahoma State Illegal Immigration Law, HB 1804. passed here in Delaware. Three years ago we had about 32,000 illegal aliens here. Today we have about 68,000 illegal aliens here. We have had it

We are a sympathetic people, but Americans must come first and any lawmaker who represents the illegal immigrant, must be kicked out of office. There are three main enforcement tools within the United States. E-Verify, 287(g) local police alien enforcement and ICE raids. Reps. Lamar Smith (R-TX), Gary Miller (R-CA) and Sue Myrick (R-NC) have formed the Reclaim American Jobs Caucus to raise public awareness of the connection between illegal immigration and unemployment. To pressure the Obama Administration to vigorously enforce the laws against the employment of illegal aliens, work to implement legislation that will protect U.S. jobs from the impact of illegal immigration (especially to make E-Verify mandatory) Working to defeat legislation that will put U.S. jobs at risk from the impact of illegal immigration (especially to defeat amnesty.) The Tea party movement have many objections to the Republican usurpers and the majority certainly don't agree with Dick Armey.

  • Brittanicus 2 years ago

Another burden for luckless taxpayers. Just read the predicament the Sanctuary State of California. mexicanoccupation.blogspot dot com

This really is the time when jobless American or any citizen and legal resident needs be a member of RECLAIM AMERICAN JOBS caucus. Only together can we stop this travesty of our immigration laws? Whatever our party consideration, we need to make it clear to all politicians that America belongs to THE PEOPLE-not to the open border demented fools, pariah businesses or the politicians themselves.

  • Brittanicus 2 years ago

Republicans cannot shift the whole blame on Democrats, as equal indifference must be attributed to both politico's..

Now we the American people must contend with another Amnesty, Assuming President Obama can force it through. but who pays for the millions already here, or those who try to slip past before the signing. Another amnesty just means more will try to get here, thinking a third will be past at some future date. Not just the overworked border agency, but expired tourist and students at airports. So much is involved in processing new immigrants, that the whole weight falls on the taxpayers. Once here they can sponsor more family members, including those who would spend uncompensated time in emergency rooms

  • Brittanicus 2 years ago

My guess by that, the numbers are infinitely far more. In the neighborhood of 20 to 30 million. 8 million illegal workers at the least escaping detection in the job market and that's why we need E-Verify?

Perhaps that is why our government has sided with the business sector, to just identify--ONLY--new hires. Therefore, millions are not discovered, because they are already working somewhere.undetected. Federal, state county and city don't want you to know, who has already slipped past any enforcement process. I suggest that's why E-Verify has become a menace to corporate welfare. But E-Verify had gained plenty of momentum, and the Democratic leadership led by Sen. Reid, Speaker Pelosi couldn't slip it past public awareness or popularity amongst HONEST BUSINESSMAN.

  • Brittanicus 2 years ago

For interested parties a new caucus is being formed called , "RECLAIM AMERICAN JOBS.? The American people need to fight back against the illegal immigration occupation, before it too late. Our nation is suffocating under the relentless invasion, that our politicians have ignored for decades. For reasons beyond most peoples understanding, they have blocked any successful way of restriction of foreign nationals that have swarmed into every community in this nation. The numbers from government sources and other biased sources proclaim there are only 10 million, with numbers dwindling. However nobody in there right mind believes these numbers, as they have drudged up consistently over the last 10 years ago, without any change.. Tuscon Border Agency says for every one person, that is apprehended 9 disappear into our country. Once a criminal act like entering a land without permission, they will stoop to illegal voting in a lax state.

  • Barb3000 2 years ago

I agree with Brittanicus, and Delaware Bob one hundred percent. If these states don't stand up and fight and pass laws to block illegal aliens from any and all services that are tax payer funded and give our police departments the right to check to see if they are in the country legally if they are picked up or in jail. If this is not done we won't have a country left. You begin to wonder just who started giving them services in the first place? Just how did all of this start? I lay a lot of the blame on state government such as Governors, Mayors, city councils and the like who have catered to business and special interests that stood to make money off of hiring illegal aliens instead if American citizens. This has gone on for years. Let's put a stop to it and vote the bums out.

I consider myself as a compassionate person who wishes well for all peoples. But, this support of Amnesty (pathway to citizenship) violates the very principled and law abiding citizens of all races of this county. It amazes me at those who sit on high and delegate to others about morals believe we (citizenship) should ignore the multiple violations illegal aliens commit. This includes our religious leaders and politicians. Just because they are poor, does not give them the right to violate my citizenship and ignore our laws. Anarchy exists among 12 to 20 million illegal aliens who; trespass, cheat, commit fraud, and steal jobs from countless in this country and the list of violations continues!!! This is all done under the guise of poor hard working people. I am poor, but that excuse is no longer palatable to me. Personal responsibility on their part and respect of our laws is in order. Therefore with respect, I cannot support amnesty as it violates my beliefs.

  • mopickelly 2 years ago

I agree with some of the comments about legalization. I just bet they would be legal in their own country.

We HAVE to sstop this insane invasion that our government is allowing to take place.

If this amanesty does take place, it will make the who have applied for legal entry to tha U.S. feel like a bunch of fools.

If amnesty is granted, we must also consider "chain migration". That would be the high numbers of relatives that could then be brought into the U.S. by those newly legalized illegal aliens. One can only guess what those numbeers would be. No amnesty! No way ! Remember 1986! The last amnesty only encouraged more illegal immigration.

  • kimela 2 years ago

I am so glad that Antonvich is speaking out for the citizens of Los Angeles, such as myself. We have gotten this is insane traitor of a mayor- Villariagosuck! who allows this crap to go on and stands with them when they protest. I think he should be tried for treason, tarred and feathered, then sent back to the land of his people!

We've been on this road to ruin since the 1986 Amnesty. California has welcomed illegal immigrants with incentives and benefits for decades and we see the result in our bankrupt state budget. At some point, California leaders will ned to decide if they work for the citizens or the illegal immigrants.

Seems they have been working for illegal immigrants at the expense of our citizens. But if they continue this approach, who will pay the taxes to support their generosity?

  • Mad Mommy Right Again 2 years ago

MM- Well said. The top hidden world leaders have decided to 3rd-world us, and amnesty is one of their favorite methods. If they pass one now it will make `86 look like a walk in the park.

We will not even go back to California on vacations. It has gotten so bad and is getting worse all the time. I am a Democrat but hope the Republicans take over and clean the state up.

  • Delaware Bob 2 years ago

It's about time, California. I was wondering whenyou were going to WAKE UP! You cannot go on wth 3 million illegal aliens in your State a have a bill of $19 BILLION a year. Get a State law like Arizona, Oklahoma, Missouri and a number of other States.

Get rid of ALL the illegal aliens and you will get rid of ALL the problems that go with them. THAT IS A FACT!

What part of "Illegal Aliens" don't people get!!! I'm tired of my hard earned tax dollars going to these people. I say round them all up and deport them all. Also arrest anyone for hiring them. That's the real problem. If no one gave them a job... they wouldn't be here... So arrest the employers!!!
