Illegal immigrants have staged a protest in front of a prominent Chicago hospital, demanding free organ transplants. According to Judicial Watch, all the protesters are from Mexico. This demand is joined by other demands from illegal aliens such as, driver's licenses, discounted college tuition, welfare, and the same civil rights as legal US citizens get.
Marchers paraded back and forth in front of the hospital carrying signs with sayings like, “we are also human!” They used bullhorns to lead the chanting of the protesters. In 2007, the cost of a heart transplant was $658,000. The cost of a heart and lung transplant was $874,800 and the cost of a heart and kidney transplant cost $758,700.
The US spends about 4 billion a year for medical care for millions of illegal aliens. Most of the money goes to free clinics and hospital emergency rooms. But hospitals and clinics do not receive full reimbursement for all the care they provide, and it creates a hardship on the hospitals and clinics, that could bankrupt them.
A few years ago, a Florida hospital spent a quarter of million in legal fees, in order to discontinue treating an illegal alien, and return him to his native country, but not before they racked up 1.5 million in medical treatment for him. The same hospital provided free treatment for an illegal alien from Mexico for over two years.
Under Obamacare, the newly legalized immigrants will not be eligible for Obamacare and the cost of their treatment could very well wind up on the back of the American taxpayer.
