John Conyers
Democrats Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers of Michigan, Zoe Lofgren of New York and Robert Scott of Virginia on March 12, 2009, requested that the Department of Homeland Security investigate into the treatment of illegal immigrants by Maricopa, Ariz. sheriff Joe Arpaio. He has been accused of unfairly targeting Spanish-speaking people.
The sheriff responded that the probe is politically motivated. He points out that they are being joined by pro-illegal activitist groups such as National Day Laborers Organization Network and the infamous ACORN group that has been under investigation of fraud during the 2008 presidential election, some of whom have already been indicted. The two organizations have launched petition drives and rallies in support of the probe.
However on March 19, ten Republican members of the House Judiciary Committee wrote to Attorney General Eric Holder, questioning the investigation into his discrimination against Hispanics.
The Republicans wrote to Holder that
It is important that state and local enforcement officers and the public are reassured that the investigation is proceeding in a judicious and fair manner, and not for the purpose of politicalizing or chilling immigration efforts.
The results of Arpaio's efforts to get criminal illegal immigrants off the streets is well documented. The sheriff says that 60 trained detention officers. In an 18-month period, 16,000 inmates were determined to be illegal immigrants who were involved in such things as human smuggling operations and other crimes.
He says,
Either they have already been deported or will be deported after being tiried and/or serving sentences for crimes committed in the valley....which has contributed to a recent reduction in crime....
...20 percent of inmates in the Maricopa County jail are illegal aliens and of those, 2,000 illegals--70 precent--were arrested for felony crimes including forgery, kidnapping, aggravated assault, driving under the influence, drug charges, robbery, murder and theft.
The question remains whether or not this is a political witch hunt by Democrats in Congress to detract the American public to from the mess they have made since the election of Obama and the control of both houses of Congress.

Pelosi called these people patriotic. How patriotic is this?
"A Hannibal police officer was finishing up mundane paperwork on a quiet Saturday morning when Manuel Cazares walked into the station, blood splattered on his hands and shoes.
Cazares put his hands out, crossed them, and told the officer to arrest him.
"I killed two people," he allegedly said.
Details surrounding the allegations are far too common: an abusive relationship, a jilted lover, a sudden attack.
But some in this Mississippi River community of 17,000 best known as Mark Twain's hometown aren't just outraged by the violence. They also question why Cazares was in Hannibal at all.
Cazares admitted after his arrest that he is an illegal immigrant from Mexico. The 32-year-old had several run-ins with law enforcement before the homicides, but officials had never questioned his legal status.
Now he is charged with two counts of second-degree murder and armed criminal action in the Feb. 28 deaths of his ex-girlfriend, 27-year-old Amanda Thomas, and 25-year-old Carl Patrick Epley"
THESE are the people Pelosi, Reid, Conyers and ACORN want to STAY in our country unimpeded.
And Pelosi called ME "un-American"?
Got something to say?
