By Alex Lloyd Gross

When firefighters got on scene of a three store rowhouse on Genesee Place, they were greeted by heavy fire in the first and secondfloor. They had a report of a person trapped on the rear porch area. They were also greeted with exploding fireworks that hampered their efforts to save the occupant. The fire happened just after 2:00 p.m.

As they tried to make their way inside, shells were exploding around them. By the time the fire was put outa nd declared under control two firefighters were rushed to the hospital with serious injuries. The injuries were not life threatening, fire  officials said. The individual inside the house sustained some burns as well.

Fireworks are permitted to be sold in Pennsylvania but only to out of state residents. The lawmakes no sense and helpscontribute to scenes like this. While  fire officials could not classify howmany fireworks were actually on the property but it was more than a coupleof cases.

The house next door sustained heavy damage as well.  A medic unit was called to stand by while police inventoried the supply of fire works.
