On Monday morning, state troopers pulled over a van with a broken windshield on the Pennsylvania Turnpike and discovered 10 illegal aliens inside the vehicle. According to Pennsylvania State Police Sgt. Anthony Deluca, three of the illegal aliens escaped during the traffic stop but were captured a short time later.
The nine Salvadoran nationals and one Honduran were all turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
The illegal aliens were on their way from Maryland to work on a taxpayer-funded housing project in Jeannette, PA.
The federal project is being built by Homes Build Hope, a subsidiary of AdelphoiUSA.
Chad Ruffner, executive director of Homes Build Hope, told The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review that the workers were hired by a subcontractor, in this case, O.C. Cluss of Uniontown.
Ruffner said: “That's their crew. They check their papers every day. I've seen them checking in. They do that every day. I've seen them check them off.”
Ruffner then shifted the responsibility to the general contractor, Steve Catranel Construction of Wilkins, which is supposed to check workers’ driver's licenses and other documents to verify their identities.
But, Catranel claims that he does not know the identities of the illegal aliens who were detained, and therefore cannot verify whether or not they were working on the Jeannette project.
Catranel did say: “We thought we had addressed the issue so it wouldn't be an issue. I don't know what else we can do. We have names, photos and sign-in sheets."
The contractor continued: “The guys on the job are very good carpenters. They work.”
O.C. Cluss officials have not commented on this matter.
As we have seen so many times, those who hire illegal aliens simply pass the buck of responsibility to everyone, but themselves.
With 1 in 5 Americans out of work, we simply cannot afford to allow one job go to an illegal alien. The issue of illegal immigration is now a fight for the survival of the American family.
As I always say…For every illegal alien with a job, there is an American without one.
Last month, 14 illegal aliens were arrested in Panama City, Florida, all of whom had been working on a federally-funded construction project, where U.S. workers had actually been turned away. I am really hopeful our laws against ILLEGAL aliens will finally be enforced. The enforcement part never happened after the huge 1986 amnesty so we were outright lied to by the federal government then. We will see if the new congress can be trusted and we have rule of law instead of political correctness.
ILLEGAL aliens cannot get a better deal than legal immigrants who respect our laws. That is just plain evil and it also creates more ILLEGAL behavior when we reward criminals. All American citizens need to be more concerned with the problem of ILLEGAL immigration because we won’t have a country worth living in soon if this serious problem isn’t finally dealt with. It’s time to use E-verify and enforce the law.
I need to fix the roof of my house. Minimum wage here is $7.25 hour. I cant pay more. I make $9 an hour. Can you send me someone illegal or us citizen (who cares, I care about my roof) to work on my roof?
Bad economics is what supports bad immigration policy. Immigrants do not take Americans' jobs - they create jobs and are helping the economy recover. When they come here to work they save their employers money - who may then invest it into higher-skilled jobs that the out-of-work Americans, many with college degrees and looking for a job that uses that, are looking for. If you have ever worked at a high-paying job for a construction company, it is likely that without immigrants you would be paid less or out of work.
Capitalism has proved that more people does not mean more poverty or fewer jobs. Let the economy recover instead of "helping" it with evil immigration enforcement measures. Let these people stay as guest workers and contribute to the recovery instead of deporting them at a cost of $6,000 per head!
"Immigrants do not take Americans' jobs"
That is definitely not the case. Illegal aliens have virtually taken over the unskilled and semi-skilled American jobs in the construction industry. They have driven the pay scale for those jobs down to minimum wage levels. Since illegals can not risk standing up to fight unethical treatment by the employer, illegals will always be hired in preference to legals.
Santiago, stop smoking that stuff. You're hallucinating. PEW center says that 8 million illegal invaders are working here. They have all committed felonies by lying on I-9 forms, using stolen and/or fraudulent SS numbers or income tax evasion. With 22 million unemployed Americans looking for ANY job to feed and shelter their families, greedy illegal invaders are indeed hurting our economy and our people. These bottom feeders have partially cause the number of Americans living in poverty to jump to 43 million citizens. These invaders are enriching greedy, criminal employers - no one else! We need to deport 100% of all illegal invaders, jail criminal employers and build the mandated fence so no more of these low lifes enter our country.
Your comment makes some sense but I have one question... You say, "... they create jobs ". How do they create jobs? They have increased the need for law enforcement in my area since a large percentage of them have criminal records in their native countries and brought their criminal ways with them but I have a hard time seeing that as a positive thing. How are they 'creating jobs'?
Santiago you are out of your mind. They do take our jobs and are bad for our economy. A lot of what they earn is sent back to there country and then exchanged at a higher rate through currency exchange. Just being hear is illegal. If I can ( as a citizen) obey the law then so should they. Deportation is our best weapon against this kind of theft of American jobs.
You act like we don't know that they send the money they make back to their country and family. They don't spend it here. They just get more American subsudies to live here for free and send all the money to support their homeland, not ours! All illegal immigrants cost the American's is more money and lots of it.
That's a crock. They not only take jobs they used to run prices down. Not so much anymore because people like you have make it politically incorrect to go after illegals.
Fine employers heavily for each undocumented worker found. Any caught working here Illegally are never allowed to work in country again.. Step up a guest worker policy for workers we need, with strict policy of reporting in while in country. I have more but let's start with that, the fining employers heavily as that will do wonders to stop the, "we just didn't know" argument, as they will make it a point to know.
Illegals takes our American Citizen jobs. Two years ago I was a Inspector for a company that builds private Homes. Everyday there was several people came up an ask me if the company was hiring. Of course not! Contractor's hire their own, which take the responsible out of the Company building the Homes. Only the Supervisor's speak English. All were Mexicans and some south of Mexico. It doesn't help the economy! Sure it help the employer but it doesn't help the people out of work (American's). Why are you here? Do Mexico have jobs? Stay in your on country and help the economy. Not every American have a college degree! Most are blue collar workers. Fix your on Country. Stay at home. Your not welcome! Mexico inforce there Immagration law more than the USA. It's that evil? Again, your not welcome.
yo santiago you have GOT TO BE KIDDING, quit with that TIRED old excuse, that you think excuses you from BREAKING THE LAW!!!--i'm a nanny & i could/used to make MUCH MORE $$$, but i now have to compete against your wives/girlfriends that know NOTHING about cpr, 1st aid, disapline techniques etc--i WENT TO SCHOOL 4 THIS!!! because of illegals i get MUCH LESS $$$, because the market is FLOODED with u peeps!!!--my boyfriend USED to work construction...GUESS WHAT he's no longer working since u illegals will work for NOTHING!!!!---DO NOT TELL ME "ya'll only do jobs that whites won't do"---THAT'S CRAP & U KNOW IT!!!!

Thank you for shareing a story of truth for a change. Yes the person who hired the illegals always make up a story to look like someone else made a mistake. then the guy says, but they are real good carpenters, sounds like you must know them. Stop lying, and start paying Americans a fair labor rate, and lets put America first. This is our country, we need to defend it, and our American families. We come first, every time. Illegals go home.
You mention fair labor rates, Texan, that sounds dangerously unionized to me. Remember, the labor unions are one step up from the illegals - keeping Americans who want to work for any pay from being able to find work because of union drafted contracts that price legal labor out of the profit margin of local c0ntractors. How about free trade instead of fair trade? If you only meant being paid based on skill, then I apologize for the rant.
Illegals, we dont want you in our country. Your bad dream is over, so its time to wake up, and start packing. all yes, dont forget to take your anchor babies with you. Leave now before your jailed like your buddies in this story.
With 1 in 5 Americans out of work, we simply cannot afford to allow one job go to an illegal alien. The issue of illegal immigration is now a fight for the survival of the American family.
So America, lets get our gloves on, and start throwing the trash to the street. Its time we clean up this illegal sh*t around here.
Our DREAM would be if they all left and with their anchor babies
that have no right to an American birth certificate.
We really need to change the "anchor baby" law, close the borders, then deport the illegals. There are, and have always been, people that want to move to the United States LEGALLY, but cannot walk into our country at midnight. Why do we give them healthcare, welfare, and a free pass. WE, as a country, PROMOTE this kind of behavior from the illegals. This is not fair to our citizens, and it is not fair to the people living in foreign countries wanting to move here through the legal channels. For the record, they should jail and fine heavily, the employers that hire the illegals, then deport the ones that hire the illegals. If the government was interested in closing the borders, instead of getting rich(er) from the drug trade, and buying votes, then we would not have near as many problems. We are WAY TOO NICE!
You do know anchor babies are legal US citizens right? Deporting them is just as illegal as the invaders entering and working illegally. You need to give those parents a choice - abandon your anchor baby or forfeit it's US citizenship. If you abandon it, the burden on taxpayers will still be less than it is now - we'll be happy to raise responsible US citizens.
The contractor continued: “The guys on the job are very good carpenters. They work.”
When American citizens can get hired for jobs, they work too!
Well said, Dave! It's been obvious for a long time now that the watered-down E-verify law must be made MANDATORY (the House will pass this but Reid's Senate and the U.S. Chamber of Horrors will block it) for ALL U.S. businesses AND for current as well as new hires. If E-verify is strengthened in these ways, employers will be forced to fire illegal workers.
Steve Catranel is the face of those greedy, criminal employers that have driven up the number of unemployed Americans to 22 million. They laugh all the way to the bank on the pain and suffering of American workers that have had their jobs and paychecks stolen by the bottom feeding greedy illegal invaders. All criminal employers should lose their licenses, have their assets seized, pay fines and do solid hard jail time.
"The contractor continued: “The guys on the job are very good carpenters. They work.”
THIS JERK IS THE PROBLEM! AMERICANS DON'T WORK?
WHO DOES HE THINK BUILT MOST OF THE U.S.? iDIOT.
If you go to the construction sites in my area all you see are Hispanics working. If you go to the Deli or fast food places at lunch time all you see is Hispanics grabbing their lunch to go back to work. All the white construction workers are unemployed.
"WHO DOES HE THINK BUILT MOST OF THE U.S.?"
The Blacks, the Irish, and the Asians. Most of them fresh off the boats. Every single one of those races were hated at one point or another. Stereotypes of laziness, alcoholism and poor driving skills are all that remain of that though.
I wonder how immigration was back in those days? How did they deal with illegals back then?
Before anything else, we need mandatory E-Verify to check all jobs in the US, including currently held jobs. Contractors, Subcontractors, sub-subcontractors, and business licensees need to have E-Verify used on them, and they need to use it to check all people they hire whether as an employee or otherwise.
We need to do this before any other steps. It's the most cost effective way of clamping down on illegal immigration.
If they were working on a federal contract they'd be getting decent wages too (prevailing wage). These are jobs Americans would like to have.
The contractor was reporting and billing as if he was paying prevailing wage, but most illegals work for less than minimum wage. Bear in mind, the employers are the ones who go out of their way to steal every dime they can. Illegals, while breaking the law, are looking for ways to improve their lives. Do you think they prefer living 15 to an apartment, working for minimum wage to the possibility of earning inflated union rates? No way. But they see an easier route because American traitors are willing to employ them, so they take the easy way in exchange for lesser pay and having to look over their shoulders every time they hear a siren. Not taking their side, just pointing out, those prevailing wages weren't likely to go in any illegals pocket.
We were in central Pennsylvania 2 weeks ago. Let me tell you---the area is depressed---harder hit than some during this awful recession. People can't sell or rent their houses --- sometimes even at rock bottom prices.
It's absoultely galling that sleazy, unethical employers would hire illegals when the local area is hurting.
Jeannette is outside Pittsburgh. I have been there once in better economic times. Even then, it was obvious that the area wasn't prosperous. I simply can't believe that those scumbags couldn't find willing American workers in that area!
An alert security guard refused entry to an illegal alien cleaning crew at my Company. Everyone s required to sign their name in the book upon entry, the crew leader said he would sign for all but the Security Guard made them leave and promptly called our President. Our Company insisted on the verification of every worker, that crew never came back! The cleaning crew has access to areas that most employees don't have, it's a security risk to have unknown people in the building.
I forgot to add that non in the crew spoke English, the crew leader said that non of the men could write and that they came from Canada (we are a Canadian Company) It wasn't French they were speaking.
But that is what the Dem's stimulus plan was for. To stimulate jobs for the illegals so they will demand amnesty and become democratic voters. Pelosi, Obama and Reid have been very successful in that regard. They must be stopped by the new Republicans.
If there were no illegal aliens then wages would rise
I work in a Federal facility & part of my job is to compile indentifying data on visitors who need entry. We recently requested warrantied work on a roof that had been replaced earlier last year. As I took the names & other ID information of the roofers who would be coming to work on our roof, it became clear that these men were from the South... & I don't mean Georgia. I requested email addresses for each of them but none had email access. I emailed all of their applications for entry to a secretary at the roofing company & I was very clear with her that they would require a government-issued photo ID &, in the absence of that ID, they should be prepared to provide their passports. They arrived with a folded paper identifying them as Honduran. One American man with them spoke English & he explained that only one of the seven workers had a passport & he wasn't sure where it was. They were not admitted at the gate & I received a NASTY phone call from the secretary I had spoken to initially. She said, 'I can't believe you sent them away after traveling 2 hours to get there!' Equally incredulous, I couldn't believe she thought we would allow unidentified, possibly illegal workers to enter a Federal facility or to do work that could go to American workers. In all fairness, American citizens are not admitted here without adequate identificaton ither. What we don't need is a terrorist of any nationality roaming free in a nuclear facility.
Good for you. You were doing what every employer should be doing.
This story made me sick at my stomach. I believe we should boycott any business that uses illegal immigrant labor. I watched a pizza building being built next door to a gas station, not one of the men working spoke any English. Denham Springs, LA laid a sidewalk on two sides of a main street and a new apt. complex had nothing but non english speaking people on both jobs. I took photos of the apt complex and pizza bldg builders, plan to send letters and complain to all associated, and boycott all of the above. I have two unemployed sons, carpenters and brick layers who live in DS. They both applied, and were turned down. The illegals need to be shot in the knee, as they exit the bus in Mexico, so they can't walk back!
Mimi - you do know the US has never adopted a legal, official language, right? You're making assumptions here and if you really had the courage of your convictions, you'd have gone over and asked for ID or gotten an authority there who could do something about it. You're as brave as me with my phony name, commenting on the internet! next time put your camera down and confront them - or find someone who can. No one can make arrests off your pictures, but if they walked up and found the workers were illegals, they could've done something right then and there.
I say we just Nuke them, and then we can shoot them in the dark.
2 FUNNY!!--I'M DOWN W/THAT!!!
this is off the charts...and the American Companies that are hiring these illegal individuals need STIFF fines and penalties...maybe they will wise up and realize that the revenue they are making is off of Americans who purchase their products, not the illegals who just want any job. IT is Ridiculous!!!
I am an experienced carpenter, 20+ yrs worth Residential, commercial. I've worked on Dam projects, helped build condos, track housing, "real" custom homes and remodeled housing projects. I have applied and called many Construction companies here in the west and several back east, a few that I have worked for before. The amazing thing I've been told is that if I can't work for minimum wage and supply all tools, including power tools that they don't need me. They can hire Mexicans that will work for next to nothing.
I understand that sometimes, just sometimes a job was bid bad and overhead was extreme. I have to tell you that this, this, that is going on now is ridiculous! Americans do want jobs and I've changed careers a few times just to make sure the family had a roof over there heads, food in there belly and clothes on there back. A lot of bickering is going on with no results. A crack down on employers, yes. Americans that think they are better than anyone else need to stop. Shipping jobs off overseas that needs to stop. Corporations moving to other countries to avoid taxes, that needs to stop.
We all are at fault. We need to take back what we have given away by arrogance. People have asked me, "why have you changed occupations so many times", to stay working, to keep an income when things get tough in one industry i have a fall back or two or more as it is now.
I was taught carpentry when the carpenter was the lead man on the job and he had to know or at least understand all phases of that construction and be able to jump in and do or finish a phase whether it be sheet rock or electrical or plumbing to keep the job from falling behind. We don't do that any more. We are specialized, why, is it that, learning the entire craft that difficult?
I'm ready to flip burgers, it doesn't matter any more. I can't survive at what I have been offered which, believe it or not was a lot less than minimum wage. This is a union area and I am not, but even the union is suffering. Projects shut down for cost over runs. Amazing it is, we need to get back to what the country was founded on and that is simple hard work and sacrifice. Has this last money making balloon taught us nothing when it burst? Nothing is free and if it looks to easy, it just may well be, nothing good.
This crash we did this and the government is bailing out who? The lending institutions that lied and made it so easy for those that could not afford, to be able to afford, but watch out for the fine print on the page that we don't have a copy to give you just yet. The lenders that did these dirty deeds should have had to forfeit the properties to those that they were trying to snag. They got what they wanted, a huge profit for or Uncle and the properties to resell to boot. Were is the fairness there? It will cost us for years to clear this, if it ever does. This rock thrown into the pond will ripple for a long time, if "WE THE PEOPLE" can't figure out a solution and implement it, just to still the waters again.
Okay, I'm off my soap box now, it's someone else' turn.
I read a comment that was titled Anti Union.....Do you realize that unions are the reason you have a 40 hour work week? Or that you have a weekend every week? Obviously not. I don't understand why people bash unions for. Maybe because they make a fraction of what WE make and they pay for health insurance? Or is the fact that we have a pension and many other benefits at an arms reach? If you are that jealous, all you have to do is go apply at the hall. As far as cutting into profits....there isn't but a few dollars difference between the rates that union and non-union shops charge...sometimes we are actually cheaper. Its just that a non-union shop will make a lot more off of you than a union shop while paying you less and making you pay for benefits. I've worked both sides of the fence and by far prefer the union side where WE actually invest in training..the RAT sides education is a joke....think before you speak!
Grab every supervisor and manager that came in contact with the illegal workers and charge them with anything that might stick. Make Obama's DOJ come to their rescue and out the POTUS and his slick attorneys for the enablers that they are. Also, find out where they were living in Maryland and go after whoever benefited from the illegal money that they made.
I have no hatered against the illegal aliens but I would like them to go through the proper channels like everybody else has done. And why can't they learn english so we can have comunication. Snap! Way back, remember how Natives had to learn. And they were here from the get-go. For instants You practically have to know spanish or salv, to have comunication. And it sucks when with every appts you put in for enployment your hired if you know spanish.
Also a comment on the border between Arizona , Texas, and Mexico. Yes! build the fence and have camps there. Let them earn there citizenship. Like learn the Laws , Constitution, and English . With two to three years time at the camp back ground check is in the works and if they are out standing citizen.
What about that?
They are still bleeding our country with all the free medical, food banks and schools we have to pay for for them to be here. Also all the money they send out of the country hurts our economy. My insurance is no insurance at all any more because we pay triple to help pay for all the non-payee's.
That is why they need to enforce fines on Employers that hire. Stand up and turn in employers you know that are hiring illgeals. My nefhew said he knew a contractor who hired them because they were cheap. I asked him why he didn't turn him in. he said cause it was his buddy. So it goes. The Buddy system protects them. No one wants to be the one to turn the employer in and get him in trouble. How much trouble is that employer causing? It has to start with them. If they can not provide the jobs then theillegals can not find work. Plus they need to respect our laws and country if they are going to be here.
It's time to make the employer do jail time and not pass the buck. If they can't verify the contractors or subcontractors right to work, they don't deserve to be in business.
Congress is derelict in not changing the law to close the loop of employers like these builders shifting the blame. Congress and the incompetent (greedy?) employers are to blame.
This story shows illegal aliens are in this country illegally. They are working illegally. They quite possible have false documents. They are stealing jobs from lawful residents and US citizens.
The Democrats in Congress have not secured the borders. The Democrats refuse to deport all the illegal aliens. The Democrats are responsible for the 10 tg 20 million illegal aliens in this country.
Voting for Democrats only encourages illegal aliens.
Stop voting for Democrats!
