Illegal alien charged with kidnapping baby in Minnesota

On Wednesday, police in Minneapolis arrested Isabel Diaz-Castillo hours after a statewide AMBER Alert was issued for 8-month-old Carlos Orozco.

An anonymous tip led police to the red Kia Sportage listed in the alert.

"The suspect bailed from the vehicle, ran inside the home, and the officers found the child in the basement of the home," Minneapolis Police Chief Janee Harteau told reporters.

Diaz-Castillo told police that the boy was hers.

The child was reportedly unharmed.

The baby was taken from his home while his mother, Victoria Orozco, was taking a quick shower as her son napped.

Orozco told FOX 9 News:

"I have only seen her twice, and yesterday was the third time," Orozco said. "She came to my house. I've never really met or sat down and talked with her."

Orozco told police she met Diaz-Castillo at a laundromat about a month ago.

Diaz-Castillo has been charged with kidnapping and is currently being held in the Hennepin County Jail on an Immigration and Customs Enforcement detainer.

She is in the country illegally from Mexico.

Diaz-Castillo's two sons, ages 9 and 12, are now being cared for by family members.
