It's official! IKEA is coming to St. Louis and hopes to add 300 jobs to the area.

Many in St. Louis have been anxiously desiring an IKEA store locals can call their own. For awhile, there was speculation that the Swedish home furnishings company would open one of their large stores on the site of the old Chrysler plant in Fenton.

A couple years ago in September of 2011, a hopeful group even launched a Facebook page dedicated to bringing IKEA to the old Chrysler plant location. However, IKEA officials chose to build within the city limits of St. Louis instead. It is the company's hope that this newest location for the retailer will draw shoppers from more than an hour away in a radius that covers Missouri along with other states.

The new IKEA store is planned for the Vandeventer and Forest Park area, which is within the City and will hopefully be a boost for St. Louis. Missouri also recently announced another location outside of Kansas City.

Construction is planned to begin during the summer of 2014. If all goes as planned, locals and residents in surrounding states will be able to start shopping at the St. Louis IKEA in the fall of 2015.

To apply for jobs with IKEA, keep an eye out for announcements as to when and how to apply.
