Yesterday marked the addition of the 30th character to the Super Smash Bros. 4 roster, as game directer Masahiro Sakruai announced the return of Ike.

The first Smash Bros. game to feature Ike was Super Smash Bros. Brawl for the Wii. Many thought Ike would be replaced for Smash Bros. 4 by the newest Fire Emblem lord, Chrom.

Ike made his first appearance in the Fire Emblem series in 2005 with the release of Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance. He would also be prominently featured in the sequel, Radiant Dawn for the Wii. Radiant Dawn was released in 2008, and since then the only Ike appearance we have seen was a small DLC (Downloadable Content) part in Fire Emblem: Awakening.

Many have speculated that the main character of Awakening, Chrom, would have replaced Ike had he been cut. Even with Ike returning there is still a chance that Chrom finds his way onto the roster. We have already seen that Awakening has its own stage in the 3DS version of the new Smash Bros.

As for this version of Ike, he seems to be using his Radiant Dawn design rather than his Path of Radiance look that was used for Brawl. He also has a lot more muscle, which, combined with the blue hair, makes him look strikingly similar to a character from JoJo's Bizarre Adventure.

So how do you feel about the return of the Fire Emblem hero? Do think this puts a damper on the likelihood of Chrom making the roster or does the extra Fire Emblem representation bode well for his chances?
