IKC Dog Show in Chicago a family friendly indoor event at McCormick Place

The International Kennel Club of Chicago (IKC) is hosting the 2014 International Cluster of Dog Shows at McCormick Place` this weekend, Feb. 22-23, 2014. One of the largest bench shows in the country, the IKC draws the top dogs from across North America to compete for the "Best in Show" title.

The IKC show is a family friendly event that wags its way into Chicago with over 160 breeds of dogs for a weekend of competitions, performances and dancing. The show runs Sat. and Sun. from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. .The show is an excellent indoor activity for families, particularly for families who want to know what breed would best fit into their lifestyles. The International Cluster of Dog Shows annually attracts more than 10,000 purebred dogs from 160 breeds. The canines demonstrate their skills in a variety of competitions and demonstrations at the annual show. Judged competitions include conformation, rally and obedience; the Best in Show Amateur-Owner-Handler Competition; Junior Dog Judging, offered exclusively for children ages 9– 19; and the Puppy Spectacular featuring the finest puppies aged 6 months to 12 months competing for “Best Puppy In Show.”

The IKC show is a benched show, which means that visitors get to meet the breeds and get up clos and personal with the dogs and their handlers. Using a unique “Chicago-style” format, guests are encouraged to meet and greet with dogs and their handlers when they are not competing.. People can see the dogs as they get groomed and ready for the show, pet their furry coats, talk to the handlers and ask questions about the breeds.

The free Kid Zone offers face painting and arts and crafts, to keep the youngsters engaged and happy.

There are also Dog Fashion Shows, so visitors can see the latest fashion for canines and finds garments to keep their beloved companion warm during the winter.

The Barn Hunt is new sport based on the hunting and teamwork skills.

Ask the Vet is a segment that lets attenders ask questions and health and caring for pets.

Admission to the IKC Show is free for children under 12 with the purchase of an adult ticket (adult ticket is $20, $15 seniors or a two day pass available for $25/$20 for seniors). The IKC Show is held at McCormick Place, Lakeside Buildingm 2301 S. Lake Shore Drive, Chicago, Ill.
