The International Kennel Club of Chicago (IKC) is hosting the 2013 International Custer of Dog Shows this weekend at McCormick Place North in Chicago, Illinois. The family friendly show,one of the largest all-breed benched dog shows in the country, takes place on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 23 & 24, 2013, from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.
The IKC show draws top dogs from across the United States and Canada. The champion dogs compete for prizes and the coveted title of “Best in Show.” This family friendly event is the perfect answer to parents looking for indoor activities during the cold winter.
Tickets are free for children under 12 with the purchase of an adult ticket (adult ticket is $20, $14 seniors or a two day pass available for $25/$18 for seniors).
Along with the free ticket, the show offers a kid zone which includes; Face painting, Arts and crafts, ask the vet sessions, how to pick the perfect pet for your family and much more!
Using a unique “Chicago-style” format, guests are also encouraged to meet and greet with dogs and their handlers when they are not competing. During the benched portion of the show, visitors can stroll among the dogs and talk to the handlers and owners. This is a great way to learn about different breeds, which is especially beneficial for families wondering how a certain breed might fit in to their household.
The International Cluster of Dog Shows attracts over 85,000 visitors annually. Visitors get to observe more than 10,000 purebred dogs from 160 breeds. The dogs demonstrate their skills in a variety of competitions and demonstrations.
Judged competitions at the IKC show include conformation, rally and obedience; the Best in Show Amateur-Owner-Handler Competition; Junior Dog Judging, offered exclusively this weekend for children ages 9– 19; and the Puppy Spectacular featuring the finest puppies aged 6 months to 12 months competing for “Best Puppy In Show.”
