From sketching shirt designs during real estate class and selling shirts out of the trunk of her car opening her own storefront at Harbor Center, owner Christina Patino is inspired through various mediums, including photography, magazines, television, books, and most of all, like many designers, music. She designs what she wants to and whatever she wants to wear herself. iKandy has come a long way since 2004.
The iKandy brand had humble beginnings, being sold out of Patino’s vehicle. It soon grew to advertisements on MySpace and she began selling at local craft fairs and expos. Eventually, it led to opening a kiosk at Pearlridge Center, Uptown, which was between Payless Shoe Source and Farrell’s, in 2009. Most recently, on June 1, 2013, iKandy became a storefront at Harbor Center, that little shopping area behind Cutter Ford in Aiea.
Her two boys, Talen (4) and Treyton (8 months), are an inspiration as she is able to bring her boys to work and spend more quality time with them than someone who works a full-time job and then squeeze in time with their kids. She also manifested the iKandy motto, “Do what you love, love what you do” from a saying her father used to tell her when she was growing up, “Sweetheart, if you find something you love to do you'll never have to work a day in your life.”
iKandy products center around jewelry and accessories, clothing, and decals.
