Ihu's Breakaway Falls opens at Aquatica, takes brave riders to new heights

Ihu's Breakaway Falls, a tower with four water slides that's a one-of-a-kind in Orlando, opened at SeaWorld's Aquatica water park on May 9.

While Aquatica is packed with a variety of thrilling rides, two wave pools, and even a "lazy" river that actually rushes riders along in the rapids, Ihu's Breakaway Falls is a whole new experience perched 105 feet above the ground. On three of the slides, riders step into clear capsules that close behind them. Then they wait in breathless anticipation and drop one by one. They never know who will drop first or how long it will take, and a piped-in heartbeat raises the tension level.

For those who want to experience a somewhat milder thrill, there's a fourth slide that lets you launch yourself instead of waiting for the random drop. All four slides drop you up to 40 feet before you hit the twists and turns of the traditional enclosed slide portion of the ride. Each of the four slides is different, ensuring that thrill seekers will want to try all of the options.

Click the video accompanying this article to take a virtual ride on the orange slide (the other colors are green and blue for the plunging slides and purple for the version where you're in control of your own fate). It shows just how intense, yet fun, this new ride can be.

Ihu's Breakaway Falls is now open daily at the park, which features animal encounters and education activities along with its wave pools, rivers, and water slides. It's located across from SeaWorld Orlando and requires a separate admission ticket.
